Default OS: 8800 4.5.0.150/4.5.0.108 (Multilanguage) - 12-26-2008, 09:19 PM

Software For BlackBerry® 8800 smartphone
This will work on any carrier's 8800 model.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.150 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.150
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.108
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.89
* File name: 8800M_PBr4.5.0_rel150_PL2.7.0.89_A4.5.0.108_Turkce ll.exe
* File size: 75.56MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Click HERE to download.

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8800:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Previous OS release is here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...languages.html

Oh, and this new version number shouldn't cause too much confusion, right? Sheesh.

I'm almost done downloading now, I'll report back with any news (though I don't expect much).

Not much to report in the way of updates.

All seems smooth. No memory leaks, no big changes in battery life. Browser looks substantially the same. Everything looks substantially the same. Probably just some behind-the-scenes adjustments I wouldn't notice anyway.

Meh.

If nothing else, this upgrade went very smoothly. But I still get errors during my restore process. That's fine, I'm particular about exactly which databases are most important to me, and I make a specialized backup file just for them.

I'm running 4.5.0.174 (Platform 2.7.0.92, Appl. 4.5.0.124), which does seem to improve the overall speed/responsiveness over 4.5.0.81 and 4.5.0.108. There seems to be slightly more free memory available as well. No other major changes.

Yeah, once I get out from behind my corporate firewall I'm going to download that and install it.

It never fails, as soon as I get an upgrade completely finished, something comes along to make more work for me.

At least this time it's (yet) another new version of the OS.

Thanks for the feedback on the latest unofficial version - I'm always hesitant to jump on that boat.

OK, I got out from behind my firewall last night.

I really like the .124 version. Alot. Great battery life (.108 acted wonky on me yesterday - phone got hot and battery life dwindled during the afternoon), and very snappy.

And I believe it has threaded SMS.

Thanks

Update on .124:

@wu-wei: you are correct it has threaded sms & battery life seems better as well.

Meanwhile I've also noticed that the memory cleaner seems to work better as well.

I'll add another vote for improved battery life.

And thanks for confirming the threaded SMS. As I mentioned in the other thread, I don't use it enough to know, but it sure looked like a threaded SMS conversation to me...

Do All Day Events show up in Today themes now? They don't with OS 4.5.0.81 and all posts indicate this is OS related (not theme related).

Nope.

Check the 8830 thread. That will have the latest OS for that device.

When will AT&T EVER release this as a proper build for the 8800 in the US? I really don't want to mess with a build not approved for my carrier. I have been waiting for years now for a single update and here we are in 2009 and still NOTHING!!

Is this AT&T's way of trying to get people to buy a new device to get new features?
