I followed the directions to the letter and my friends 8830 VZ would not take the upload. Any ideas?

Any one have any problems losing the audio on the video player after you bump it forward with the scrubber bar, seems that each time I do this the audio is eliminated - but the video remains playing and at the point at which I moved it forward or backwards to.
My thoughts are that maybe it's the way I formated them - I used imtoos software for the conversion.
Other than that it's running swell!

To answer my own question, yes I just upgraded fine on Telus. No problems thus far, like the new web browser, BES is working but i need to upgrade from 4.1.5 to get the full email support tomorrow!

Upgrade went well... -
02-11-2009, 08:29 PM
...on my Verizon 8830. Only issue I have is that after I reboot my BB and then go to BB Messenger, it asks me to send out a message to all my contacts to refresh their PIN, and they all go to PENDING. I can still message them, but why is this happening? Anyone else experience this?

So I noticed, a couple things after I loaded 4.5.0.127
1. Before I applied a 3rd party theme (Curve 8900) I had over 26mb of free space and that is with 13 3rd partys apps loaded and Documents To Go.
2. Once I applied a 3rd party theme (Curve 8900) I had 12mb of free space and then with in 4 hours it dropped to 5mb.
So I changed themes (BB Dimension L)and deleted the 3rd party theme off my 8830 and after 1 battery pull and 20 hours "up time" I've held at 26mb of free space!

Good Lord! 26mb? Wow! I'm jealous!
I installed 4.5.0.127 on my vzn 8830 and have most of my apps loaded on a microSD card using Aerize; after a reboot, I get maybe 15 mb free. (I just looked and have 18 3rd party apps, but several are launchers like CB, CNN, etc.)

(pick3222)..To clearify 3 of my 13 are "launchers" also. What I can't understand is why sometimes the File Free grows bigger? I bounce between 26mb and 31mb. So with so many 3rd party apps what are your "top 10" can't live without?
mine are:
Google Mobile Apps
Bible (You Version)
MaraTick
BBMobileMeeting
TwitterBerry

The original post states that I should click on the loader.exe.... does that imply I don't need DM??

I tired to load this OS on my friends VZ 8830 and in the loader it only shows the app's that he loaded onto his phone. I deleted the vendor.exe file as well and still no dice. Any reason why it's not working?

I used DM 4.7 to do the upgrade to 4.5.0.127 a few days ago. No issues there.
When I go to About, I see v4.5.0.127 (Platform 3.4.0.20). Great!
Today, when I plug the device into the computer and launch DM, I see:
"Blackberry 4.5.0 System Software"
"Update Now" or "Cancel"
see attached picture.
?!?! I'm confused?

I didn't have to reactivate. Do a battery pull and send some test emails.

I never had to reactivate mine, and I'm on my corp BES.
If you upgrade the device at your work on a PC that is connected to a BES, you do NOT need to reactivate the device.

Did my upgrade from 4.2 to 4.5, went very smoothly. BES re-activation was also easy. Love the browser, standard email is only a little better, so I'll still stick with BBSmart (company hasn't upgraded servers for HTML support). Love the GPS with BBmaps.
Finally have equalizer options for audio playback, but I expected a more robust player for a major OS upgrade. Such as the ability to set the equalizer settings manually. Also, while I browse through my MP3's, it shows the same album cover for all songs until I actually play a specific song. Then I can see the true album cover.
It's already been said in this thread, but this load has bad memory leaks. On 4.2 I averaged 6-7MB of free memory, no matter what. Now here is the strange part. When I first loaded 4.5, I showed 12MB free, so I thought "Cool!". But, after getting things back to normal, I started to show my usual 6-7MB of free memory. After a short time of device usage, the memory will drop to 3-4MB of and after long term use, will go down to 1MB and become sluggish. Not a big deal since a reboot starts the whole process over, but I hope a fix comes out soon.
Finally, DocToGo is awesome. I have really needed this for a long time to be able to carry certain documents with me to access information on the fly. One strange thing did happen thought. I had already performed the OTA update for DTG to get the latest and greatest. I had forgotten to load BBMaps on the initial OS upgrade, so I went back to loader.exe to put it on my device. At the end of loader wizard, it showed that it did not recognize many of the DocsToGo files, looks like most were for other languages than English, and it removed them. This basically took DTG back to the original install and SheetsToGo was missing. So, I had perform the OTA upgrade a second time to get it working again.

I got the same thing - twice now - not everytime I've fired up DM. I just click CANCEL.
Maybe it's the .133 upgrade someone else posted about but I don't want to risk my current working .127 until I know. Maybe it is just DM being odd (it kept wanting to REMOVE my Sheet-to-go)

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties. I use the Sprint 8830 WE and my install went very smooth. I ensured I followed the OS upgrade procedures to the letter as described on this forum. I also ensured I downloaded and installed the latest Desktop Manager prior to installing the OS. I did lose information in my text and address groups but that was all. I did see the 507 error for a split second but it went away and continued installing. These were the only issues I had and the OS is working wonderfully now.

What version DM are you using?
Try to do a backup of your device. Does it work?

4.6
And I've backed up and synced yesterday since I added a bunch of appts and a new work report (memo). As a matter of fact as I'm replying, I doing a Bluetooth backup just in case.
I have been having "TEMPORARY" lockups and I now attribute them to the media card being scanned. I think that was my problem the other day and last August when I tried the .77. I did not realize that the scanning would appear to freeze the entire unit. I may have too much music on the darn device and I only have an 8gig card. Today I moved all of my tunes out of individual composer folders and into the one big MUSIC folder to see if that helps. This morning it locked up twice. The second time, since I had a doc's appt, I just shoved it into my pocket locked up. About halfway through the appt, I got an email chirp so suddenly it was NOT locked.
Your backup failure: Do you have WSJ or Associated Press widgets? Those have caused backup problems for others.

I have my music as follows:
Media Card -> Music -> Artist name -> CD -> Songs.
The Media Card should only scan after a battery pull or when unplugged with Mass Storage Mode turned on and actively being used.
There should more recent updates other then .77 for the 8830.
For the first time I feel the future might hold something different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.

Nope.. that wasn't it. I had everything turned on. For some reason, BB Maps can NOT lock onto the satellites. :( It tries for a long time but then errors out.
OK.. if I stand outside in the cold (I happen to be in Canada right now) and give it a few minutes, then it locks in. BIG DEAL (not). I notice that when I am moving around in car, the little cursor icon moves exactly where the car goes, until it reaches the end of the screen, then it keeps going! The screen does not scroll automatically to keep the icon centered as it should. After looking at the BBMaps website, I notice that is it supposed to stay centered. But I guess it doesn't like me. :(

I've noticed 2 items since moving to this release from .101:
#1- Unable to play videos on msnbc.com where I could before on .101. I receive a message that video is not supported on my device
#2- My 3rd-party car charger no longer works. Could be coincidence, but something in the software could be making the BB more "picky" about it's power source. The charger light is on. I've yet to try a friend's BB. My RIM wall charger works fine.

Richard, try pressing 0 when in bbmaps with gps on. It should then follow the location of where you are.

When the update came out for 4.2.x for 8830, Decembers 07.. does anyone remember what the delay was for Verizon to release their update after other providers had released theirs? (This is assuming Verizon was not the leader releasing the update first)

I am experiencing the same delay. After the upgrade, it takes a second or two before the BlackBerry comes to life.

Hmmm I have a unlocked device and my SIM card shows up fine. Haven't been overseas in a year to test it, but will be testing it in Sept. But if I go to options->advanced->SIM, it shows the simID and says security is disabled.

The upgrade went well , even though memory holds steady for a while, it eventually drops down and runs out, so there is still a leak somewhere.

I agree. I have 127 on the 8830, with only GTalk and WSJ Mobile Reader installed and the memory has steadily declined from ~6MB to ~2MB. This is with several dozen emails, a few txts and a lot of playing around with Gtalk and WSJ.
