Model: 8830
Carrier: Bell
Default OS: 8830 4.5.0.177/4.5.0.127 (Multilanguage) - 02-06-2009, 01:52 PM

Looks like Bell just released 4.5 for the 8830...
This will load on ANY carrier's 8830 by following the instructions below.
This is only for the 8830 model

Software For BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.177 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.177
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.127
* Software Platform: 3.4.0.20
* File name: 8830AMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel177_PL3.4.0.20_A4.5.0.127_Bel l_Mobility.exe
* File size: 81.37MB

Download the OS here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...646D38BC2145CA

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8830:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Previous OS here:

Any reason this would not work on the Verizon 8830?

I'm actually lost on this, I just threw the 8330 4.5.0.131 on my VZW 8830. (Yes you read, and I wrote that last sentence correctly.) Is this a downgrade then from the package .188 and applications .131? Other than it being an "official" release, I don't see a reason not to use the Curve 8330 package.

Has anybody noticed any differences with either .127 or .131? I am not sure which one to use.

Yes this would be a downgrade for you.. carriers have yet to release the latest and greatest version. Beta's will always be a step ahead of the game.

Anyone noticing memory leak problems with 4.5.0.127 on 8830? My free memory seems to be dropping from ~12MB after battery pull restart to ~ 7.5MB within5-6hrs later. And that is just with the BB sitting on the table and not using it.

The only apps I have installed are GMail and Google Maps.

How much free RAM are the rest of you seeing?

I've had mine running all day and have 13.8MB. I have no 3rd party apps installed at the moment.

I did the same thing with my 8830... I think I will run 4.5.0.131 for a while before making any changes...

Problem seems to be related to Documents2Go. When I removed it, free memory has been holding at ~13MB for >24 hours. Seems Docs2Go has a memory leak problem. I was using the newest version of Docs2Go from Dataviz website.

Done. Really nice. I didn't install Docs2Go. Have about 17MB available after install. BES and BIS email coming in fine. Thanks to the OP for the post.

17 MB too. I removed some features such as VOD and useless themes such as icon and today.

It kept all of my third party apps when I did the update. In fact other than the new functions/speed/cosmetics everything else was as before.

You have forgotten to delete the "Vendor.xml" file. It can be found at c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader. Once this is done go to the above location and click on "Loader.exe".

Not to belabor, but my phone rang today and I about jumped out of my chair. I had it set to loudest of course, and could still barely hear it. It's LOUD now. I really like this upgrade. I'll have to go look for a cool theme to go with it.

Default Error when downloading attachments on BES - 02-09-2009, 05:08 PM

Hey,

Anyone having a problem downloading attachments when on BES? I've had this issue since playing with some of the betas/prereleases, and had hoped a production version would have the issue cleared up. Alas even with a fully upgraded BES, all requests to download attachments yield an error of "An unknown error was encountered".

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Wow this versions quality equals to 4.2.2.192, but with newer features! Install it if you had concerns about memory leaks, etc. It's worth it.

I did the upgrade and like everyone said it is a much bigger improvement over 4.2. However, has anyone noticed that when you click the trackball when the screen is black it takes a few seconds to turn on; I never had that problem with 4.2. Any thoughts as to what it could be?

I cannot get this update to load. I've tried over 15 times to put this on a partners Sprint 8830 and all I get is error 205. I then wipe and try again. I deleted the os off the pc and downloaded it again and tried 10 more times. I had to wipe and go back to 4.5.0.77 which loaded on the first try.

Any ideas?

Also, the reason I was trying to upgrade his phone was because when I upgraded to .101 it lost the ability to go connect to the internet, no icon, no service etc....I re-sent service books, tried to delete the .101 off the pc and downloading another version. It didn't help. It was fine on .77

Arghh...

-Jeff
