Exclamation 8830 not detected by laptop anymore & only charges w/car adapter - 06-05-2009, 02:09 PM

Hello All.

.

For an unknown reason my Sprint 8830 will not charge from any wall adapter or via USB connected to a computer.

It will only charge from a car adapter.

I have tried different adapter, different USB cables, different computers, taking out the battery and all the usual things but to no avail.

Suggestions/answers? Your help is much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

It sounds like the USB port on your device is going bad. I've experienced this a few times with 8830 devices.

Unhappy Thanks for the quick reply. - 06-05-2009, 03:05 PM

Well, in that case I will trudge back to the dealer and be prepared for him to tell me it's going to cost a mint or it will take forever to receive a replacement and I'll be out of luck for a while.

Seriously though, thanks!

Had the same issuse 3 weeks ago. USB port went bad. Was able to use a battery at vzw store so I could then use googlesync to copy my calendar and contacts. I was glad I'd been paying for the extra insurance. my 8830 was 2 yrs old. and not ready to upgrade just yet. So vzw swapped the 8830 out on site for a "new 8830"..Finally something good to day about vzw customer service.

Wirelessly posted

After looking at the problem with my dealer we discovered the pins of the USB port of the phone were bent. After bending them back as they should be the port worked perfectly. I only wish we would have discovered this before exchanging my BB :(

I have to give props to the dealer because he really gave me his best effort and with his help we figured it out.

How hard was it to bend your pins back? I figured I needed to replace the whole port(you can find them on eBay).
