Welcome to the forums.

With OS 4.5 you will have GPS in BlackBerry maps, not Google maps. Google maps will use cell tower triangulation on your Verizon 8830.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know that. At least the GPS works.

Google Maps will also use the GPS data. It uses cell tower triangulation initially until GPS lokcs on.

AFAIK, GPS is unlocked totally in the Verizon BBs.

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

cell tower triangulation is not the most accurate GPS

Verizon BB's GPS will only work with their VZNavigator program. They are definitely locked out.

Not true. As mentioned already, you can also use BlackBerry Maps. (OS 4.5+ is required.)

For a while after updating my 8830 bbmaps worked, about 2 weeks ago it stopped. The only semi GPS aware app I have now is google maps, though the accuracy isnt great (though I understand why). DOnt know if its just me but I have tried everything I can think of to get bbmaps working again and it seems not to. Is anyone else having this problem?
