Default Latest OS: 8830 4.5.0.281/4.5.0.169 (Multilanguage)(ESN Devices) - 09-08-2009, 09:43 AM

This will load on ANY carrier's 8830 by following the instructions below.
This is only for the 8830 model (ESN based model)
From US Cellular

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.281 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.281
Consisting of:

Software Name: BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.281 (Multilanguage)
File Name: 8830uAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel281_PL3.4.0.51_A4.5.0.169_U. S._Cellular_.exe
Download Size: 82.598 MB
Language: English
Published Date: 09/02/2009

Download @ US Cellular: U.S. Cellular

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8830:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Previous OS here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...n-devices.html

How to determine if you have an ESN or MEID based device.
From the main menu, select Options, then select Status.
ESN devices - On the Status screen you will see ESN on the display
MEID devices – On the Status screen you will see MEID on the display.
NOTE – You cannot install ESN-based software on a MEID device, nor can you install MEID-based software on an ESN device. They are NOT interchangeable.

I installed it the day it came out and haven't had any problems. I don't notice anything different though (but I haven't really looked).

I upgraded and have been running through the same tests I have always performed after an upgrade. Everything I had before came back just fine, i've been running apps and closing them, leaving some open and checking for memory leaks. I haven't noticed any significant memory issues at all - I use the Aerize Optimizer and rely on its memory stats to make this determination.

Other than that, I haven't noticed anything different at all. I am unable to test GPS (BlackBerry Maps) since I am located in a building that prevents me from getting clear access to satellites. I expect this to work just fine once I get outside to my car and mess with it again. I'll put up another post regarding the GPS ONLY in the event that it does not work properly for some reason.

Thanks rdrum. I am most interested in the memory aspect. I'm running .138 and have apps that will cause a reboot after running 3-4 times. It is really becoming tiresome and I was hoping a new release would finally correct the issue.

Been running it since the release day, and haven't had any problems whatsoever.
I think that memory management improved with this OS...

Has anyone noticed the "chirp" issue that seemed to appear with previous releases?

I've been running this release for a few days now and have not noticed any memory leaks. Of course, they're probably there - it's hard to imagine an OS that doesn't have leaks - but I have not come across them.

I have started and closed apps, installed and delted apps, etc., and outside of having the phone restart after an install/uninstall, I have not had to perform a reset.

According to Aerize Optimizer, my memory stats have been fairly static.

So far, this seems to be a pretty stable release.

I haven't had any chirping at all. In fact, I have never had this issue with any of the OS updates like other users have experienced.

Upgraded last week and haven't noticed any issues.

Battery life stinks..... but that was the case before the upgrade.

With this update, It seems that the BES option has disappeared from the advanced options screen. Is this the case for everyone?

What do you mean the BES option? Do you mean the Enterprise Activation Option?

I installed the upgrade on Saturday. Memory leaks seem to be at a minimum (or stated another way, this version thus far seems to have best memory management). Also, I did have the chirp issue, and after several calls with the upgrade it's not there.

I spoke to soon. I still have the chirp (for what its worth it seems less obtrusive?!). However I still think the memory management is fantastic. I still have several megabytes left after several days of regular usage for me without rebooting.

NAH, do it.
If you are like me and running a couple updates behind the change is great, resolution much much better overall display improved speed etc all improved. Email options/function has a few improvements as well
The ringers and alert tones do sound different though, first time I heard it ring I thought it was not my phone.

No, once a device is unlocked it is ALWAYS unlocked.

BlackBerry 8330, 8130, 8830 Maintenance Release 10/14

Update time! On 10/14, BlackBerry will release a Maintenance Release (MR) for the BlackBerry 8330, 8130, and 8830 handsets. It will post to Sprint.com/downloads on 10/21/09.

The new software version is 4.5.0.175 bundle 295.
The BlackBerry 8330, 8130, and 8830 MR fixes the following issues.
Display:
If the customer received a new email or SMS text message, the Home screen might not have displayed an indication of a new message received.
Wireless Network:
In some cases, the signal strength indicator (RSSI) might have fluctuated randomly and the customer’s device might have appeared to have a strong connection to the wireless network, followed by a weaker connection.
Messaging:
Previously, if the customer’s SMS delivery option was set to immediate, their device might not have sent the SMS message immediately as expected
If the customer’s were sent multiple MMS messages, they might not have received all of the MMS messages.
Phone and Voice Dialing:
If the customer received a phone call there might have been a delay in audio routing between the time they answered the call to when the recipient heard their voice.
Hold tight for the update next week, and post your experiences / thoughts when it arrives…

This has been the best OS release for me since 4.2.2. The memory management is sooo much better that VZNs current 4.5 release. the only issue I have is the about screen does not work. I have seen that is some of the 4.5 betas, looks like it came back for this release. No biggie though.

I see, you posted in the 8330 thread so I assumed that's what you meant.

Looks like the latest available from Sprint for the 8830 is 4.5.0.135.

VERIZON user - any one know if/when Verizon will release 4.5 verision? looks like Sprint , US Cellular and ATT are ahead on this one.
PS- would another carrier's 4.5 work on Verizon?

>> Randyb19, neelsonwheels and rdrum, you also are verizon users.....from what site did you download this upgraded system if not from Verizon?

Yes, you can load any 8830 OS onto your Verizon device. You just need to follow the instructions above and remove the vendor.xml file.

Default Sprint 8830 v4.5.0.173 - 10-29-2009, 11:06 AM

The highest version I can find for Sprint 8830's is 4.5.0.135. Does anyone know if version 4.5.0.173 is available and it's location?

Thanks.

Try following these steps:

BlackBerry - Update your Device Software

I believe 4.5.0.175 is available for the 8830 for Sprint if you go to the above site and check for upgrades.

There is no downloadable file that I am aware of.

Default 4.5 upgrade / memory leak fix - 10-29-2009, 02:11 PM

I just ungraded yesterday ( a very painful process) after having recurring memory issues which many 8830 owners are familiar with. It seems to have fixed all the issues and the device is much more responsive. I strongly recommend any of you with old OS versions to upgrade ASAP. Note that if you are not very BB savvy and PC competent you should let the tech support walk you though the process as it is very painful and if you could create a mess. Enterprise users may or may not have to re-authenticate to their exchange server depending on how the backup goes. In my case it just continued to work but it might be a good idea to have your IT guy on standby. Good luck!

Thanks.
VZW is offering .138 as of yesterday.

US Cellular has .169 which what is listed in this thread and is the most current available for download as of this posting.

You can load .169 on any carrier branded OS (Sprint, Verizon, etc) by following the steps listed above.

So, I have been running this load for about a week now. The memory utilization is a drastic improvement form .138. I was having to reboot my device on a daily basis, watching my memory go from 6MB on the reboot down to 300K by the end of the day. Now, it hovers around 2-3MB for the past 3 days. Awsome!

Now the bad. I too have experienced the chirping during phone calls. It is not every call and, in fact, it has only been a small number of calls. It is tolerable and if it is only going to happen on random occasions, I can live with it. The memory fix is too vast an improvement for me to whine over chirping on calls.
