Default 8830 World Edition/vERIZON -- What should I expect? - 10-05-2009, 02:44 PM

I've got a BB 8830 World Edition, v4.2.2.196, on Verizon (in New York). I've got a memory card and a SIM card in it. I'm about to travel to Northern Italy. What type of service should I expect from this? Should my work emails come through (Microsoft Office). Should I be able to make and receive phone calls? Internet data service? Do I need to check my Verizon plan?

Thanks in advance.

I'm jealous...love N. Italy..

First, make sure you have the sim card loaded properly (I had three verizon techs do it wrong) and your phone recognizes it options>advanced options>SIM Card...there should be an ID number. The rest depends on your plan...when I travel overseas, I get the global phone package (I think $4.99/month) which reduces the per minute charge. I disable email (disable when roaming) as I use my computer for this. You will be able to receive phone calls almost immediately if it is set-up right. (again I emphasize to make sure it is correct BEFORE you go). You can also do data plans, but they are pricey...your phone will essentially work exactly as it does here. BTW, I highly recommend getting set-up on skype with your family and you can video call them for free!!!!

Ciao

My 8830 works great in northern Italy. Just make sure that Verizon has your Sim card activated on your account and that you have the international data package. Don't assume that just because your phone came with a Sim card installed that it is activated in the Verizon computers. You can turn the international data package on and off by simply calling Verizon and they will pro-rate it by the day. If you are going to be making lot's of phone calls, get the $4.99 international voice plan. Roaming charges are $1.99 per minute from most of Europe and that does not include long distance charges so watch your minutes.
