Default BB nuked, i'm sure it's gone, but... any hope? - 10-22-2009, 11:35 AM

I have my friend's BB 8800, he said it stopped working, since I have had several BBs I offered to try and fix it.

It was powercycling, where the battery was drained, and could not charge since the hourglass would appear as soon as the battery was plugged in, then it would reset. Tried pluggin in the wall charger, PC, to no avail. Plugged in without the battery, then inserted the batter, same result.

Today at work I put another battery from a different 8800, and it was doing the same powercycling. I realized it's not the battery, it's the device.

So I decided to wipe. Loaded up Desktop Manager, went to wipe the device (by putting in wrong password 10 times). It got stuck when it said Connecting to (ARM)... for a long time actually, while the red LED was on. Eventually the red LED started blinking in the following series of flashes: blink blink.. blink blink.................... basically, 2 blinks followed by another 2 blinks (almost as if they were 4 blinks), then pause.

Disconnected the device since I figured it was stuck. Reconnected it. Now the LED just stays on for a while (maybe 60 seconds, maybe even a little more), then it's back to the series of 2+2 blinks, pause, blinks, etc...

Device manager does not see the PIN.

Loaded up AppLoader with nojvm switch. Nothing appears in the device drop-down, not even USB:unknown PIN or some such thing - it's just empty.

So, bottom line, i think it's nuked. JL_Cmder can't connect to the device either.

Does anyone have any tips? Is there ANYTHING that can be done?

It's out of warranty.

I would try following these steps (even though it sounds like you have, maybe not in the order).

Be patient, it may take multiple attempts for it to connect.

Yes, i tried it, and now tried some more, nothing. I will boot into Linux to see if it recognizes the device in the USB port at all.

Maxb you have to catch it just right in the timing of the boot sequence. It may take 10 of 15 tries. Keep trying it will catch it eventually.

I tried many times, USB:unknown doesn't ever show up. It doesn't show up in linux USB devices list either.
