Cannot open any attachements -

I have a user that is using the 8830 and he can't open any attachements on his blackberry. It is connected to our BES server however this is the only user that is experiencing this problem. He can't open excel (xls), word (doc) or pdf files. When he tries, he gets an error saying: "This attachment type cannot be viewed on your device."
I've deleted the desktop (cmime) service book from his phone and resent his service books and I've finally gave up and wiped his blackberry however he just came back to me saying that he is having the same problem. Whats the next step here?
