People want to make money. I bet he bought it when he first heard about the new Blackberry.

These days, so many people and companies keep buying all kinds of site names in hopes of one day of selling it for lots of money. There's even websites with similar name in hopes of bringing people to other sites.

What is the definition of "the BlackBerry 8800 will be available very soon."
Like 2 weeks? A month? 2 months?
I hope it's sooner than I want it to be.

I bet this guy made a KILLING off this.
I wonder if RIM threw in a 8800 to sweeten the deal.

I'm just surprised that RIM didn't snap up this domain name before anyone else.

I mean, they certainly knew of the model number before anyone else, and it would seem to me that by now all companies would register all possible names for their business. It's not like buying the domain name is expensive...

Doesn't say the guy sold it for money. I'm guessing he gave it up nearly free or for some product.

Right. "I won't take $40,000.00 but I'll take a Pearl that I can buy for $250". The deal included money LOL.

No doubt, if he has any $$ smarts he woud have done a deal so that RIM has to renew with him to extend the payments. There are a lot of these cybersquaters our there. It is hit and miss type of financial gamble, but the payout can be big.

Yes, I totally agree - seems pretty dumb on RIM's part. I just looked on GoDaddy, where I have my domains registered. RIM has registered all the blackberry.[anything] names, and now all the blackberry8800.[anything] names. They've also registered blackberry8100.com, but amazingly blackberry8100 is freely available to be claimed and registered for .net, .org, .biz and .us. It would take RIM a sum total of $28.46 to register all 4 of those and make sure no one else could. Amazing, simply amazing!

EDIT: And it appears that someone else is "squatting" on BlackBerry8700.com, and all the other BlackBerry8700 names are open and available too!
