LOL ... good to see Rogers ready for the launch next week !
Just tell them this ... you want to speak to someone you knows what they're talking about and see if they know of such a person.
Typical Rogers ... the left hand not knowing what the right one is doing.

^The phone is not released yet........just because it is on the HUP list does it mean that it has launched. Dealers have NOT received pricing and have NOT received confirmation that it is filling dealer channels yet.

Not to turn this into a Rogers Bashing thread... but I have to totally agree. They use 3rd party customer service reps in the evening, so call in the day. The 3rd party reps are literally as dumb as wood. All of them... no exceptions.

That's not true. One of my co workers brothers is a Rogers Rep and has been working in one of their call centres as one of the Team leaders for the past few years. My co worker tells me that according to his brother Rogers does use third party reps at times but usually when they forecast a higher call ratio especially during the holidays.
When I inquired about best time to call my co worker said that his brother recommends early morning because most well seasoned reps don't mind working early mornings and that's what you'll find most of them at various call centres.
He did tell me that they do have actual Rogers reps that work in the various call centres at all hours so it's not only 3rd party reps that will answer calls late at night. Unfortunately there are a few reps third party and actual Rogers employees who don't know much so my advice would be if you feel you have an incompetent rep on the line call back and speak to someone else.

so word down the pipe just about 20 min ago is that there is an delay. Rogers and rim had not forseen this, so the product will not be launching tommorow but a couple of days later. I will give you more details when i hear of anything. And when we should all expect to have them.
Also heads up to any posters, no dealership has been able to order them yet, so for the people who are saying that they ordered 100 at their location that means 'they want to order 100".
This issue is a national release issue not only subject to Vancouver (where my office is)

If I remember correctly, for the 8700 it was approximately 1 week before all retail stores were getting shipments.
8800 is also on the list for tech support on the rogers site as already posted here earlier....so it can't be much longer.
can't wait either....

well, i went by my local rogers store and checked out the dummy 8800 unit.
i would say an overall thumbs up, but i will not be upgrading from my 8700 just yet.
the kb is cramped and the mushy keys give you little feedback and i see how some posters here didnt like the space bar key either...seemed buried.
i really have a problem with the mushy keys and pearl-ball....maybe the real working units will be firmer.
the slimness is nice but it does feel bigger than my out-dated looking 8700r.
the features arent a huge upgrade but the 8700 does everything i need but not everything i want.... but either does the 8800 so why blow the $500?
the plastic chrome of the sides and send/end keys has got to go....looks like cheap "made in china" crap! brushed aluminum or a matte finish would fair better for fprintz too.
i love my bb and RIM but i just want to tell it as i sees it. i have no apple products at all but they really kik the sh*t out of the competition with their no compromise approach to using quality materials in their cutting edge designs.
8800 is still a good model if you are coming from a 7XXX series or you are a
new bb user and want the latest.
my 8700 will stay until something new with more features arrives.
my 2 cents

I went to Metrotown today in Burnaby, BC to look for a shirt and stopped in to the Rogers and Wireless Wave in the Mall. I looked at the dummy model of the 8800 and like the overall size of the unit although I do agree that the keyboard is mushy. What really took me off guard was the price. The Rogers store I visited roughly quoted me at $800 without a plan and wireless wave said the price would be from $800 to $1000 depending. Needless to say I will not be signing any contracts for three years with Rogers for a discount which unfortunately means I will not be getting an BB 8800.
It's a really nice device and does exactly what I want but no cellphone is worth that much money in my opinion.

Uhh - prices they quoted you sound a little off. More like:
$499.99 with 3- year term
$549.99 with 2-year term
$599.99 with 1-year term
Don't know about the no-contract cost. Probably $649

Rogers release postponed to April! -
03-08-2007, 10:53 AM
- Was on the phone with Rogers recently today.
- They mentioned $499 for 3 yrs contract would most likely be it.
- Also mentioned that the release date was set for March 20th but now is postponed to early April. Damn! Decided to purchase an unlocked 8800 via eBay.
- Good luck with your wait, for I cannot! Hehe...

That sounds like it. Rogers has often included a $350 bill credit mail-in-rebate with that, with a new contact with at least $60-$90 plan monthly plan.

What is the rogers version going to look like? Will it be the same nasty blue tint as the cingular version? I really want one of the nice black and chrome models all the prerelease reviewers had!

Nope that is not correct at all; the last huge bill credit was on the 7290 and treo 600 when they wanted to blow through them. They did this when the price of the device dropped to $150 well after the launch of the device.
8700,7130 and pearl have not included any such rebate.
The color of the 8800 is jet black.
The device got held up due to Rim supply issues. They are telling Rogers and all through the dealer channels that it still will be within march.
The pricing has been posted here:
http://www.blackberrycool.com/2007/03/08/003809/
and one price that isnt posted on the site is the month to month/ no term pricing is 649.
typically most dealers will sell the device at full retail at 749 giving them $100 in margin. Some might charge more due to the popularity of the device.
All my stores in vancouver are doing it for the srp of 749

i couldn't wait and got mine off ebay. as well someone out from vancouver is selling them on craigslist. anybody had any experience with this guy?
as for the mushy keyboard - it rocks. i was worried about it. but once you get used to it, your can just slide and press blindly across the keyboard like a speeddemon. this is my fastest bb ever.

well...i was in the eaton centre lookin for an 8800 today... and all the rogers stores are saying either friday or this coming monday. i was passing by one of those stores that sell phone like from hong kong, china and such...they had the 8800 in stock! but it was the cingular version, but they unlocked it. I was not willing to pay the price though...$999.99 :( If anyone is desperate to get it today they can get it from there.

Rogers Blackberry Snow Day -
03-12-2007, 01:53 PM
Rogers are hosting a Blackberry "Snow day" at the Westin Hotel near the Toronto Airport this evening.
Hopefully, this is the last one before they introduce the product to the market.
I used the US version over the weekend, its ok but I may wait for the Camera one.
All the best.

^ you will be denied entry tomorrow morning unless you have an exclusive invite and confirmation from RIM/Rogers. this isn't for the general public to attend but for the high volume vip customers who personally got invited.

Spoke to me Rogers rep today. 8800's are indeed delayed to a GPS issue. All the units need to be re-flashed and will be another 2-3 weeks delayed.
No 8800 for Number Portability day tomorrow.

Considering that Canada has a smaller per capita footprint than the US I claim BULL on this, not the info just the source. Not the person that sourced it but from RIM. I'm still believing that such a release SOO close to Cingulars is the reason for the delay - contractual agreements between RIM & Cingular preventing Rogers.
I'll port my number regardless since I purchased my Pearl outright before activation a new Rogers BB Account - under contract blah blah., still bothered by this.
I still say its worth the wait. If its perfection then good.

Like I said in previous message - I was told by a Rogers rep that the release date has been postponed to early April. I did not know the reason why - now there ya go - due to GPS or whatever.

Jagga, Looks like you are like me, YOu just ported your number and I am waiting for mine. I have an awesome contract with Bell, but Rogers is not matching my rate plan with Bell. (Is Rogers a Competitive company? I wonder) So I am confused and not sure IfI should port my number to Rogers, After figting with the Customer relations Dept. and Writing to the President of Rogers, Finally They agrred to cnsider giving me the Retention plan rate after three months with Rogers. But I don know the retention plan rate. anyone has any Idea? If I am going to port my number to Rogers from Bell, What is the smart way of doing it? I want a BB 8800, since it is not available, would it be smart not to sign a contract and go month by month wireless plan, then at the 3 months (hopefully 8800 would be available) sign a contract for 3 years with Date plan? What is the best rate plan to go for the time being?

I can confirm this too. I work for ol Teddy. All the devices need to be flashed with the new firmware to get the GPS to work. It has nothing to do with how close the states got it. Rogers has always been a month or 2 behind launch dates in the states. Think back to 7130, pearl, 8700,7290,7280 there was no 90 day waiting period for rogers to get these devices.
And the only reason why rogers isnt on the same release date as any of the US companies is becuase Tmob, or cingular put in such big orders that it ties up their production factories. Their bigger orders bumps rogers and we have to wait for production to slow down on the american units.
