Cingular 8800 Launch Date 2-20 -
02-06-2007, 12:04 PM
"On Feb 20th, Experience how Cingular, now the new AT&T, and Research in Motion Make Business Run Better"
Sounds very much like the launch for the 8700.

I am betting you are right. I would assume this is on the Cingular site? If so, what a find!

Cities for Launch -
02-06-2007, 12:31 PM
NY City on the 20th and SF on the 22nd
After looking at the site more its the 8800 for sure as the registration link header shows that pic, and is named 8800c.

Do we have any final features/specs? I think there are still questions as to whether or not the device will have GPS/WiFi built-in, right? If it has GPS, I'm in!

Hey Stinson -
So, you are pretty confident that the 8800 will have inbuilt GPS but no camera? I can take or leave WiFi... but GPS built in would be a doer for me, and it'd be straight cheese if it had the camera as well...
Thx,
Stac

Actually that was my attempt to do an advance release before I had a unit in my hand.
I am pretty sure most of it will work.
From someone that has used one, there is no wi-fi and no camera ,and yes there is GPS.

Thanks for the heads up on the 20th. Don't care about the camera, GPS or WiFi. For those who this is a deal breaker, please step out of the line and let the other move on up!

And this is what makes the 8800 a contender for me, but I'll have to prove out if wifi is either required or a high-need ability for some of our distributors. It could be a useful tool, but one that I don't personally require. Either way, I'm looking forward to exploring it, in one incarnation or another.

Sorry, no evidence of that. I'd only have interest in using WiFi if/when it becomes city/county-wide. Even then, its usefulness for me is very limited.

By the time most/many cities have WiFi even in the most populated areas, the 8800 will be history. I will agree it may be desirable but it would not break the deal for me. I still need a good QWERTY keyboard on a good phone that does email, that is important to me.

Everyone is different, as in my case, desire over rules need. I did not need a LS460 but I desired it and purchased it. Almost any car would get me around but some do it with way more excitement!

Will the built in GPS work with TeleNav, or BlackBerry maps only?
Any chance it will be available to purchase the day after the announcement?

It should work with them all or they will have to adjust their programs. I am getting old and can't remember how many days after the launch of the 8700 they were available. I suspect this will be shorter and you might be able to on the 21st. I have no solid info on that.

My dealer had the 8700 two days after the release but had the Pearl the day after the release. Suspect it will be the same here unless someone ships them early.
The wait is coming to an end!

I have a high tollerance for shame. It did blow the doors off my neighbors 7 series BMW and I suspect it would do the same to all but the very fastest Benz.
I have not driven anything with 380 horses in a long time and the 8 speed transmission does everyone justice.
Copy the S class? It look like all the Benz were made in Japan, who did Benz copy?
AND so the mods do frown on this post, it works well on BT with my Blackberry!

Why do people keep expecting the 8800 to "do more than the Pearl can do"? RIM generally releases qwerty and SureType models. Of course the 8800 is like the Pearl but qwerty -- that's the point! Granted, these 8800's won't have the camera but there will be a version for those who do want the camera or aren't bound by corporate security policy.

You should be able to find actual dimensions all over the place as well as rumored specs. A photo (especially 90x150) isn't the best way to judge anything since it doesn't indicate anything other than exterior styling. It's definitely much slimmer the 8700. What rock have you been under?? ;)
