I have a Blackberry 8800 with a 128mb media card, and I want to play music that I have paid for via itunes.

I have copied these files to he media card via the desktop manger (where I can see my media card), but they do not show up when i look on the blackberry?

Do I have to convert my ipod songs to an mp3 format to be played and seen on the media card on the blackberry 8800?

if you purchased music from Itunes, they can only be played through iTunes or on an Apple iPod. The songs you downloaded are DRM protected and to my knowledge there is no way around the proctection. So they won't play on your blackberry. This only applies to songs you purchase from the Apple Music Store.

If you convert them to mp3 or aac onto a CD then rip them back off, they will play on the 8800 in either format. If you use a cd-rw you can reuse it.

I don't think you can convert iTunes purchased music, thats why they are DRM protected. But I could be wrong

You can as Stinsonddog said. Just burn whatever songs you want on your BB to a cd then rip them off. It's tedious but it's a way around DRM for iTunes

Stuff bought from iTunes is deliberately made to ONLY play on iTunes. Now if we could get iTunes on the 8800!

another negative about ipod/itunes that the mac junkies and the media never bring up. you bought the music, its yours...and you can't use it. i never use itunes and rip/download everything into mp3. (i also got rid of my ipod after i downloaded songs from itunes and couldnt give them to my wife without burning onto a cd, re-ripping, blah blah blah) who wants to do that? i dont have time to do everything twice

That's the whole point of DRM: You can't share. You can play it on your computer or iPod. But you can't give it away. The only way to get the iTunes Store to exist was to use DRM. Apple can either license their flavor of DRM (they choose not to, so far) or use proprietary hardware and software for playback. The downside to thier solution is it locks you in to their Apple-only scenario. My buddy has some other player and does the Rhapsody $15 per month rental thing. You don't ever own your music, just rent it. You have choices other than Apple's iTunes and iPods.

I think Apple's DRM being easily broken by burning onto a CD is intentional on Apple's part. They don't limit how many times you can burn a purchased song onto a CD. It's not so easy to share your purchased songs as clicking a "share" button, but it's not that tough either.

There are probably several other software solutions, but I use Total Recorder by High Criteria. Basically it will record to mp3 (or other format) anything being outputed by your computer's sound card (including Itunes purchased music). It is also great for scheduled recordings of webcasts, streaming audio, etc.

you're not giving anything away. you're using what is yours that you purchased. im glad apple doesnt limit how many times you can burn a cd. whew. i agree its not that tough but we can get a 2gb card on the 8800. so transfer 500+ songs, and how long will that take? 8 hours? burning 30 cd's sounds like fun, and then copying...just make sure you use mp3 format. oh, and for all that priveledge, you paid $500 on itunes. oh well....for another forum. good luck burning, copying, burning, copying...

You shouldn't be blaming Apple for that, Microsoft, Napster, etc are just as bad or worse. Complain to the RIAA and music labels, they're the driving force behind DRM.

Download AltoMP3 Gold and use the trial version. It lets you convert M4a to MP3. It only lets you convert the first three on the list because of the Trial version but just convert 3, then delete them off the list and then convert another three. Less annoying than burning and ripping

ok sorry guys i got had working. even got video files compressed and playing on my phone. but now i have a new problem. even when i plug my phone to my computer via usb, i cannot read my sd card. i tried to go to options>advanced>media card to format it, but i dont have the format option! i also have a weird looking icon on my home screen where my email notifier would be, looks sort of like a casette tape. any idea what that is?

1. In Media Card Option Within Advanced Options, do you have Mass Storage Mode Support turned ON?

I have mine turned on. I can just go to My Computer and access the SD card directly as an external drive.

Also, it won't let you access or mess with settings on your Media Card while it's plugged in. Make sure the settings are correct BEFORE you plug it in to the computer.
