The BB Messenger comes with the device does not support any consumer IM. It only allows BB to BB IM. Just like other berries, you can install 3rd party apps such as IM+ and JiveTalk which both support MSN.

Ok, thats sounds like what i had to do on the 7290 i had which is fine. however when i got my 8700 IM would'nt work even with a 3rd party app, some technical reason i can't remember what.
Has this barrier been removed on the 8800? I guess you answered that question, messaging will work on the 8800 via 3rd party apps.

Was it that the 8700 didnt support TCP, there was some reason and a very complicated double barrel work around, the result being it wasnt worth the hassle. i'm sure this was the case.

I keep hearing good things about this JiveTalk. Where can I get it? I know it is beta, but I cannot seem to find anywhere to download it.

Hey by the way, how do I add an one-time contact in BB Messenger? It asks for an email address, not a PIN...

Just type their PIN as if the field was asking you for their PIN. That is what I do and it works when I use BB Messenger.

I like to put the PIN in their contacts and send them a PIN via message because not everyone knows how to use BB Messenger and some of my friends got BB's so its easier to just send it through messages.
