Default Cingular 8800 - GPS Disabled? - 02-21-2007, 12:05 PM

Just curious. Looking at the LBS.alx file, it shows the following:

Code:
  <fileset SystemSize="normal" Colour="True" Java="1.0" _vendorID="~102">
   <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs.cod
    net_rim_bb_lbs_api.cod
   </files>
  </fileset>
  <fileset SystemSize="normal" Colour="True" Java="1.0" series="8800" _vendorID="~102">
   <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs_internal_gps.cod
   </files>
  </fileset>
  <fileset SystemSize="normal" Java="1.0" _vendorID="~102">
   <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs_resource_en.cod
   </files>
  </fileset>
The vendorID with the tilde typically means it excludes the file for the carrier specified, in this case being Cingular (102). Just curious for any of you that have received one of these units.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

Jibi, can you see the sticky and the comment on BBmaps. The question is whether you can unlock the new BBMaps 1.1.27 and use it. One user reported that they couldnt connect to the internal GPS. The GPS works fine otherwise.

I was also think that Cingular will have something on its website soon, now that the phone is "officially" out!

Greg..I used to think the same thing. However, TeleNav is awesome! BBMaps is the next best thing. I use it more than I thought I would.

The only version of BBMaps I have been able to locate (through a link in one of these threads) indicates it is only for devices running 4.1 OS. When I connect my 8800 and attempt install, it kicks me out indicating a compatability issue.

Where are the current version(s) of BBMap located ?

I am sure it is quite nice but my LS460 has navigation built in with like 7 DVDs of Navigation Data and one pretty girls voice that tells me how to get there. My Grady White uses an even more elaborate GPS that interfaces with the radar.

If they get this working well, MANY MANY 8800 users will love it !

When you're not with your "girlfriend," the killer app is to be able to type "coffee -starbucks" into google maps and get a list of all of the nearest coffee shops from where you're standing.

I think the uses for casual location-based services will wind up being more of an application for these things than in-car navigation.

That's a fact! I'm waiting patiently for Google Maps to be GPS capable.

TeleNav does a nice job of that, though.

I activated the telenav service, but I don't see any software on my device. (8800 from Cingular.) How do I get the software to appear?
