Default Listening to attached voicemails in emails - 02-21-2007, 04:14 PM

Has anyone been able to get this to work? I was under the impression that since the 8800 could play mp3's that it would be able to open mp3's that are attached to emails (especially small ones like voicemails) and play them. But when I try to open an email from my work email on the 8800 that has an mp3 voicemail attachment there is no option to "open or show the attachment." It shows the actual file attachment, just no option to open it.

Does anyone know if there is another way of doing this? What if I was able to get the voicemail sent to me as a wav file, obviously it would be a larger file size, but would that work?

Thanks!

Your BES has to be running 4.1 SP3, which was just released this week. If you're not on BES and using BIS (blackberry.net) you're out of luck for the time being. Not sure when BIS will get support for these kinds of attachments. All of this applies to either .wav or .mp3 audio.

Geez, that stinks because I am currently using BIS. That was one of the major things that I was really looking forward to! Oh well - I guess I am SOL'ed for the time being on that one!

I am able to open mp3/wav as attachments. A nice feature.

I am pretty sure I was able to do this on BIS as well -- though I don't think all carriers are using a version which supports this. I *think* I was on T-Mo when I was using BIS to grab attachment audio. YMMV.

Lightbulb AudioPOP - 02-22-2007, 10:45 AM

I've been using a program called AudioPOP for this.

I have it working with my T-Mobile BIS account.

I just purchased AudioPop for use playing my voice mail messages from my office phone (AT&T CallVantage)... it works great with Cingular, too.

For Callvantage, the only reason I have the service, I've been logging into the web site to get email. It is slow but I like the ability to basically manage my voicemail from the screen. It works well. I was hoping gmail app would be able to start audio player, but no luck. I'm going to take a look at AudioPop.

GrandCentral voicemail service (free) the web site needs flash so I can't retrieve voicemail from that site. I'd really like the voicemail to text services but with all the voicemail I receive it would be more expensive than the cell service.

I read this and purchased and installed AudioPop for my Cingular 8800, and tried sending myself small mp3 attachments. It's just not pulling the attachment down, nor is it prompting me for a password the first time (which the AudioPop documentation said it would).

I'm a BIS user, and have AudioPop set up as "Direct TCP", port 110, auto download ON, checked the user name and password, server name etc. The only thing I saw looking at the documentation was maybe my "APN" is wrong? It's already configured in my BB as 'internet.com' with no user name nor password.

It's just not downloading the attachments -- it says things like "Pending Download".

I would really appreciate any suggestions or pointers...

Thanks,
David

Try to change your APN to:

Code:
APN: wap.cingular
USERNAME: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
PASS: CINGULAR1

Set your APN settings to the values referenced here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/afte...t=apn+settings

That should fix it.

Thanks for your suggestion, but still no joy. I changed the APN, APN User Name and password -- all case sensitive, and still it's not downloading the small MP3 attachment when I re-test.

I'm assuming that the server settings in AudioPop are for my ISP's email server where BIS (and my outlook, for that matter,) go to get my email,

Thoughts anyone?

I would reset the device (alt-cap-del or pull battery) now that you've got the APN set correctly.

Okay -- I did both -- pulled battery, and did the reset.

Another test message...

The messages in my in box shows there's an attachment (the small mp3). I scroll down to the attachment, and pull up the small menu. I click "AudioPop" and it asks me "Download Attachment?" YES NO.

I click YES. I get the message "DOWNLOAD REQUESTED"

Then about 10 seconds later I get another pop-up that says "AudioPOP: NO" with, weirdly, an "OK" button.

I hit okay, and we're back to square one.

When I go back to the attachment it again asks me if I want to download the attachment.

Ugh.

It could be that Outlook is yanking the attachment off the server before you can download it.

Well I've kept outlook off and my home wireless network off while testing this. I also just changed the destination to my gmail account and tried that, but got the email, and no attachment, along with the "could not establish connection" message.

That's strange. I use it with gmail all the time.

You need to use port 995 and an SSL connection for Gmail.

If that doesn't work I would call Cingy and make sure they've provisioned your account correctly.

Jon -- thanks -- gmail finally worked. I noticed when I tried gmail the first time, I forgot to change the server address from my own ISP. Did that, and it worked like a charm.
