Are you pushing the trackball in the supplied holster? The magnet should put the BB to sleep while it is holstered.

If you are using the OEM leather case that comes with it look inside the case, there is a groove for the trackball so no pressure is applied to it when in the case. And there is a groove on both sides so you can face the BB either way.
Politicians are a lot like diapers and they should be changed often and for the very same reason.
