Default Dif btwn v4.2.1.73 and .72 OS? O2 UK - 03-11-2007, 07:33 PM

Hey all. Im a newbie on this site but an old school BB user since the 950. Just got a 8800 from O2 UK last week. Device has v4.2.1.73. Anyone know what the difference is between v4.2.1.72?

I don't have BB maps on mine and am contemplating installing the cingular handheld .72 device software so I can get maps to work but it's a older OS!

Help please? Thanks

I don't think you need to do that. Is there an lbs.alx on your PC after installing the OS? If so modify that and start DM and it should find it. YOu need to remove the vendor info in the .alx. IMO there is nothing diff. They came out too soon together. Only diff carriers.

I haven't really noticed any difference between the two OS's. It's easy to modify the LBS.alx and get BB Maps loaded on your device.

Firstly, Stinsonddog, all your posts are legendary.

My service provider (O2 UK) did not provide the OS with the BB package and it's not available to download on their support site yet. They just released the 8800 last week and I bought it the day it came out so info on this product is weak at the moment.

Since I have no way of installing the OS (v4.2.1.73), there is no lbs.alx or 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared....' folder where it should be located.

Is there carrier specific data on my current device that I will need for my BB to work? If not, I might just install the Cingular v .72 to get BB maps.

To cliffr39: The Blackberry website currently does not support the 8800 device and won't let me download it.

73 does not work with DST and is not patchable. I am in the pacific timezone and my network time is correct but the time on the BB is 1 hour behind. I did the dst patch and it did not fix it.

Generalizations like "DO NOT USE THAT VERSION" are normally incorrect. As is this one.

The Time Zone change worked perfectly for me, and for the rest of our 8800 population here.
