Default 8800 on Alltel??? - 03-28-2007, 09:14 PM

After a HUGE mess, I now own a brand new GSM Unlocked 8700G, but am unable to use it. No provider in my area that has GSM and BIS. So now I'm on to the next option. Alltel will be in my area soon. They bought out Midwest Wireless in November. I'd really like to have the 8800. Has anyone heard anything about Alltel possibly offering the 8800 anytime soon?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
I work for alltel as a wireless consultant, and YES we are getting the 8800 PLUS the pearl! Now I have been told that we are going to get 2 diffrent types of 8800s. One with a camera and one with out a camera. We are also getting the 4.2 software some time this month for the 8703e. any way the luanch for all the BBs are some time in June, but dont hold your breath! we JUST luanched the Q after it was supposted to come out in December!(but there is a LOT of problems with that POS and BBs dont have problems )
hope that helps!
Chad

P.S.
what state do you live in?

Default Alltel 8703e ver 4.2 os - 04-03-2007, 02:44 PM

Hi,

Would it be possible for you to post (or message me) if/when the 4.2 software comes out for the 8703e? My rep is very un-knowledgable about these sorts of things. I have some real annoying issues with the 8703e's in my company. Specifically with themes. I'm pretty sure it is a firmware issue as no one else besides alltel customers are having these problems. Specifically, we can not use any 3rd party themes because information on the header bar does not show up correctly. Like the 1X and 1XEV indicators. Very frustrating for some of the people in my company because they never know if they have data connections or not. (Central Wisconsin is not that great for coverage so you can have decent signal but no network access and they can't tell if they have a phone problem or a network coverage problem.)

I've been tempted to load a different carriers OS on a phone to test out if the problem continues but I don't want to brick a phone over this.

If you can't, I understand. I imagine that you are getting barraged with questions/requests being an Alltel Consultant and posting that info on the boards here

That would be an 83XX. 8800's don't have cameras. If a BB has more or less features it has a different model number.

You are right! My "source" to all this is a RIM employee. He is not aloud to say much because everything is "top secret" but was able to say that we would get a 88XX and as posted before a 83XX. Either way I know for 110% that we are going to be launching 4.2 within this month or the first weeek of june! Until then.......

Will Alltel make any kind of announcement when the os/firmware update comes out for the 8703e? My experience has been as another mentioned, our rep doesn't really now about stuff like this.
