Default Blackberry 8800 OS: Handheld Software 4.2.1.138 / 4.2.1.90 released by rogers - 04-17-2007, 08:40 AM

Quote:
Software For BlackBerry 8800 (TM)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.1.138 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.1.138
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.2.1.90
Software Platform: 2.3.0.72
File name: 8800M_PBr4.2.1_rel138_PL2.3.0.72_A4.2.1.90_Rogers. exe
File size: 71.61MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

I recommend editing your .alx to enable all themes. Jibi's edited .alx files and instructions can be found here.

Download the OS here

To install this update:
1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager
2. Donwload this OS and install it to the PC.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (this step is necessary any time an OS is installed from a different carrier than what is branded on the BB.)
4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

relax dude, first, you have been here for quite some time, so I'm sure you know exactly where to go for OS downloads. Secondly, you most likely also know that
the release notes are not always available.

carry on...

Posting the link only makes it that much easier for the newer users that do not know where to get the OS from.

Running on a 8800 - Cingular - Theme now shows AT&T icon in center.
Seems, theme has permanently been changed for Cingular devices. Network name still showing Cingular, host routing table still showing cingular.

ok...so is this the ONLY change noticed in the new version or does it have new icons like the rumored 8300 OS?

EDIT:

After doing the upgrade, I have now lost my Cingular theme, Verizon theme, and Sprint theme. I do not have in place of the Cingular theme an At&T theme. Unless I used an outdated Blackberry.alx file I loaded in the Rogers OS and all went well. any thoughts as to why I lost certain themes?

This version also appears to have BB Maps v.1.1.32

Loading it now to see what the difference is.

Ok found the error...DO NOT load in another Blackberry.alx file such as Jibi's alx files as this deletes outdated themes in the updated OS from Rogers. ONLY delete the Vendor file so as to open up all themes. Just a FYI

So is it worth upgrading to? Does it bring anything new or different that .73 didn't doesn't have? I just finished DL'ing it, but I don't want to install it if it doesn't add anything to .73. I would hate to have to go through what the Pearl users went through with TIM's 1.66 release...

I found another good thing about this OS... the IM folder is now gone, and I can put my BB Messenger icon on my home screen!

As was mentioned before, I've been here a long time, and I have helped a lot of people on this forum in the time that I've been here. As such, please kindly reserve any comments about me until you've been here awhile.

Now, back on topic, I'm not noticing much difference, but I am having to re-install Maps.

Well I've been here a long time and my opinion of you is a helpful, class act member. Which is why I was surprised to see your sarcastic response to a normal post. I've seen every time a new load comes out someone posts a link to it simply stating it is out. That's the information, so it is informative. I'm not sure which "principal of the thing" bothered you enough to post something sarcastic about it.

Anyway I'm loading it now. It did want to update my bbmaps which previously was from the O2 load. I've never tried loading maps down from the website. I do have an LBS app sitting there in the list that had none by it. Not sure if I can remove that now.

dc/dc:
still slightly too sarcastic for me but I think I see what happened. Mrkyoo edited his post with the link as he did not originally have it. which is why you posted what you did. Mods should consider getting in the habit of putting [MOD Edit] tags [/] around whatever they are editing so it is clear. We do that on other forums just to avoid any confusion.

I don't think either of us were arguing,..As for jibis thread, I think that merely reflects the latest version of BB maps available, that's not necessarily what's contained in the OS package...

Where do you think that LBS.alx came from? It is included with this OS.

OY VEY!!

my point is that YES, lbs.alx is in the OS package, however it's an earlier version...I am saying that you must have already had LBS.ALX on your BB, prior to installing this latest OS package..

I hope that helped clarify things...

1.1.32 is in this OS package and I just installed it on my device. I had something much older before. If you are on something older than 1.1.32 then it didn't update from the OS package for you. Did you ever install it over the web?

well, now things get stranger, it seems that somehow I downloaded the same package, but my package had an earlier version in it, and yours does not? strange..I guess they noticed that and changed it quickly?

As far as differences in this OS, I used to get a javaNulllang something exception at start up. No longer see that now. Could be placebo effect but navigating around and clicking icons seems more responsive and quicker.
