Question Blackberry Messenger Icon - 04-19-2007, 06:46 PM

I download the latest version of Blackberry Messenger 1.0.94. I can't locate the associated icon. Blackberry Messenger appears in my "Applications" list. Any advice?

If you are using OS 4.2.1.72 or 4.2.1.73 it is in a folder labeled Instant Messaging.

Open Settings / Options / About - The 3rd line down will have the OS version

With respect to finding the icon for BlackBerry Messenger, mine is located under the Applications folder on the main homepage

Isn't the 8800 BB messenger version 4.2.1.xx instead of 1.0.xx?

I think that this is actual part of the problem. Is there a site to download Blackberry Messenger?

Yeah, I didn't even pick up on that... 1.0.xx is from 2005.

If your using a new 8800 from Cingular then it should have come preinstalled onto your device? As per my last post - have you looked under the Applications folder on the homepage of your device?

YEs, I have looked in this location. The problem all started when a received an invitation from a friend. It said that if you didn't have the BB Messenger application to download it at the link provided. Since I was new I followed the link and this lead to the 1.0.94 version. Is there a site where I can download the latest version?

Here is a link from Blackberry.com for this exact issue...

BlackBerry Messenger icon does not appear on the BlackBerry device

I'm intrigued by the last 'Cause' they list: "Cingular® Wireless currently does not support BlackBerry Messenger." My 8800 was my first move to Cingular and haven't yet tried to use the Messenger app but I'm curious to know if there are any issues?

Anyways, if you don't want to make the leap, here is the snapshot of the support doc:

Quote:
Problem

The BlackBerry Messenger icon does not appear on the BlackBerry device.

Summary of Causes

1. The BlackBerry Messenger application is not installed on the BlackBerry device.
2. BlackBerry Messenger is already installed on the BlackBerry device, but the icon is hidden.
3. The BlackBerry Messenger application is installed, but it is corrupt.
4. The BlackBerry Messenger application is installed, but it requires updating.
5. Cingular® Wireless currently does not support BlackBerry Messenger.

Resolution

Cause 1

The BlackBerry Messenger application is not installed on the BlackBerry device.
Resolution

Complete the following steps:

1. Download the latest BlackBerry Device Software from your service provider's web site.
2. Install the BlackBerry Device Software onto a computer that has BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed on it.
3. Connect your BlackBerry device to the computer.
4. From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to install the BlackBerry Messenger application.

Cause 2

BlackBerry Messenger is already installed on the BlackBerry device, but the icon is hidden.
Resolution

Display the hidden BlackBerry Messenger icon. For instructions, see KB01914.

Cause 3

The BlackBerry Messenger application is installed, but corrupt.
Resolution

Uninstall and reinstall the BlackBerry Messenger application on your BlackBerry device.

1. From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to uninstall the BlackBerry Messenger application.
2. From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to install the BlackBerry Messenger application.

Note: If the above steps do not resolve the problem, download and install the latest BlackBerry Device Software from your service provider's web site, then repeat the steps above.

Cause 4

If you are running the original version of BlackBerry Device Software 4.2 that came pre-installed with your BlackBerry device, the BlackBerry Messenger application on your BlackBerry device may require updating in order for the icon to appear.
Resolution

1. From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to uninstall the BlackBerry Messenger application.
2. Download the latest BlackBerry Device Software from your service provider's web site.
3. Install the BlackBerry Device Software onto a computer that has BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed on it.
4. Connect your BlackBerry device to the computer.
5. From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to install the BlackBerry Messenger application.

Cause 5

Cingular Wireless currently does not support BlackBerry Messenger for use on their BlackBerry devices.

Additional Information
Cingular® Wireless currently does not support BlackBerry Messenger for use on their BlackBerry devices.
Hope this helps, and let us know what happens...

That statement should be translated this way:

Don't call Cingular if you have problems.

I use Cingular. Blackberry Messenger works fine, and has since Messenger first came out.

Default Blackberry Messenger - 04-22-2007, 08:02 AM

Does anyone know where I can download version 4.2 of Blackberry Messenger? Most of the sites seem to point to version 1.0.94 released in Dec 05.
