Are there some errors in T-Mobile's online description or is their version of the 8800 radically different?

- The feature list does not mention GPS at all.

- The feature list does mention video capture, which would seem to imply some sort of camera, which I thought that the 8800 didn't have.

Also, not too sure I believe most of what is being said about the 8300. Do you really think RIM would release this anytime in the next 6 months and steal the 8800's thunder? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Yes...different market segments = different products.

What I would really like to see is a model with wifi/camera AND GPS. I can see why businesses wouldn't want a camera and maybe wouldn't want wifi, but "prosumers" would probably all appreciate GPS. Imagine integrating that with Google Maps... that would be awesome

Maybe they are waiting to introduce a GPS chip in a successor prosumer model so they can sell more upgrades and make more money. I suppose also that they might have to charge a higher price if they included it from the outset, which might be an issue. I bet those GPS chips are still expensive.

BTW, I am seeing the phone for sale for $350, not $400+ as others stated. I'm in Boston MA.

I think I'm gonna wait a month to see what happens with the 8300, if anything.

Also: Personally I don't get the appeal of WiFi. How often would you actually need the faster speeds? I can't see anybody downloading video files to their blackberry, and consumers (who get the WiFi version) will have to be sure to stay within range of their home networks.

According to everyone who has used one so far:

It has GPS. It does not have a camera. It is aimed at t-mobile's business customers, thus it is not cheap and doesnt have a camera.

The 8300 will be out soon without GPS but with a camera and (probably) wifi. It will probably be cheaper and it will be marketed much more intensively than the 8800 as it is consumer focused.

its not region dependent. it depends on your current standing with Tmobile. New activations are for $350 2 yr contract. Upgrade, it depends on how long you have been with Tmo.

If they made a mistake in their description of the 8800 on T-mobile website, they need to find new people to do their website. There was a discussion about another mistake they did on their website about their coverage. The way they say it, it sounds like t-mobile have lots of dropped calls.

Does this mean I could get a new phone for cheaper than the quoted price if I've been around for a while?

My situation is, I've been with T-mobile for I think more than 4 years. However, I bought the 8700g with a contract last July or August. If I waited until a year from then to upgrade, would I be looking at an added discount? My contract was for 2 years.

Call and ask. Upgrade prices are one thing that you can negotiate with t-mobile. You will get the best discount when you are out of contract but as a long time customer you might be able to get a deal. I wouldnt expect anything better then the $350 price people are getting though.

I looked all over the web, and the other carriers that have the 8800 Blackberry all have GPS, but on t-mobile's site the model they list does not have GPS listed as a feature!!!
Is it a typo, and if so any info on how you know that would be great.

Honestly, TMO will drop about $50 per additional contract year. That will vary per phone, but the $50 per contract year is about normal from I have seen from TMo.

They made the same error in a press release. Article text referenced GPS, but specs did not. Weird.

I ordered mine today too.. will show up tomorrow via UPS express service. Can't wait!! with taxes and a two year contract.. $521 out the door..

Those are mistakes. An 8800 is an 8800. More or less features (unless disabled by the carrier) means you're looking at a different model.

Hopefully you've also read that they're for different niches. The 8300 isn't designed to "steal the 8800's thunder". The 8800 is for corporate customers (or any customers) who can't have or don't want a camera.

That's me! I can care less about the camera.... I have a digital camera if I want/need to take photos.... In the 3 months I have had the 8100, I have used the camera 3 times.....

I dont think you can say that, as I have an 8700 with tmo, and the 8700 at sprint has GPS.
Different carriers get different things for sure.

isnt the sprint 8703e and not the 8700g, two different models i think.

They're the same exact model as far as I can tell. same os, same form factor, just one has gps with sprint and one doesn't.
