Default Internal Conflict! - 04-24-2007, 07:08 PM

Hey,

I am leaving my full time post to start the company I put together 6 months ago. I have been absolutely gung-ho on the 8800. I am now distraught though, the prices on 8700's are far lower (in Canada with Rogers) than the 8800. Is there a significant difference?

If it helps I am using it because the majority of my work is on the road/in coffee shops etc. I prefer not to carry a laptop and only make it into the office for a few minutes each day.

Is it worth the extra $$$?
Brendan

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I'd say unless you need the 8800's extra bells and whistles (media, SD Card slot, etc), for a mean email machine and web browsing, get the 8700 now, and in a year drop less $$ for the 8800.

The 8800 has GPS (loads maps OTA), media player, memory card, and is thinner. If those perks are worthless to you, the 8700 is my favorite BB before the 8800 and potentially 8320.

Interesting. I was kind of worried an 8800 buy would be more impulse.
Will the 8700 still run Blackberry Maps?

Any performance differences between the two (processor speed, voice clarity, noise canceling, etc. etc.)?

Decisions, Decisions!

The 8700 will run BBMaps but doesn't have GPS unless you buy the external bluetooth GPS puck.

I use BB Maps with my 8700 all the time, just did driving across New England last weekend, with no GPS.

I have not used the 8800 otherwise, so I can't comment on comparison of processor speed, voice clarity, etc., except to say that I have NO issues on any of those points with the 8700. Works great with a bluetooth headset for even better phone use.
