I purchased the 8800 case and it seems to work fine. Since I don't have an 8800, I can't really tell if it fits the same or not. Seems to be fine to me either way. I'll try to find someone in my office with an 8800 to see if it looks the same on theirs.

I have to admit that I did remove the skin and use it just with the Seidio holster. This seems to work best for me...it's as flat/thin on my hip as a Q.

Out of curiosity, anyone use the factory BlackBerry skin for the 8800/8830 here? -

What do y'all think of the general quality of the OEM skin as compared to a Seidio or Body Glove Scuba Suit?
Thx.

I'm confused here, I thought VZW phones did not use SIM cards, why is this phone using one? IIRC SIm cards are only for GSM phones, not CDMA

Paladin, welcome to BlackBerryForums.com

The Verizon Wireless Blackberry 8830 is the first hybrid BlackBerry device.
It's both CDMA and GSM.
CDMA within the United States and some other CDMA covered areas, and GSM roaming abilities while traveling abroad in a GSM covered area. It has a SIM card for the GSM services.

BlackBerry's OEM accessories shopping site shows the same cases for both models. You may want to check on part #s though.

It is locked to vodaphone's network overseas if I am not mistaken as they are verizon's parent company.

Gentle bump on Jumanji's theme question. I moved around some icons on the menu screen, but would like to add calendar and maybe Pocket Day to the main screen and dump one or two of the main screen icons back to the menu screen.

How can this be accomplished???

Thanks in advance. Jeff

Jeff,

I've been playing around and this is what I found. The first 5 icons under the menu with all the icons (when you hit the menu key from the main menu) will be the 5 that are shown on the main menu. If you move the 5 icons you use most often to the top row, those are the ones that are displayed on the main menu screen. I'd still like to get more than 5 icons on the main screen but this is an acceptable compromise I suppose.

Did y'all activate the 8830 with or without the GSM-SIM card installed? Wonder if it needs to be reactivated while roaming with the GSM card, and how that would work, since an update while roaming couldnt be done over Verizon's home coverage area...
Anyone with Motorola or Samsung CDMA/GSM hybrid world phones on VZW network chime in?

I don't really have any way to post a picture but there are 4 themes installed by default:

1. Default Verizon theme which doesn't seem half bad now that I found out how to get the icons I want on the main screen.
2. BB Demension Zen which is exactly like the Zen on the 7130. 5 icons are listed vertically on the left hand side of the screen.
3. BB Dimension Today which has the cloud background of the Zen but has text notifications of subject emails and calendar appointments
4. Dimension Icon which also has the Zen clouds but has ALL the icons on the main screen.

I'm really not sure. I ordered it from my Rep and thats the price he provided me. We're a fairly large enterprise customer though.

its useless if you don't go overseas. if you're using it in the U.S. you can ONLY use it on vzw's network as you can't use any other GSM network in the states.

Agreed, but I would imagine that most people who buy the 8830 intend to travel with it. Otherwise, there's really little point in buying the p
