Default Help Please, VZW 8830 + BB Messenger - 05-15-2007, 03:16 PM

When I recieved my 8830 it had BB Messenger loaded but it wasn't working correctly. The VZW cust. service rep told me to delete the app. and reinstall. The problem is, I can't reinstall OTA or through the USB cable. OTA it says "Your wireless provider does not allow access To Blackberry Messenger for you device." The website syas your device is not supported. Of course VZW cust service says they cannot help becuase the device is so new. So... Help Please.

Why can't you install it with the USB???

Connect to the PC, open Desktop manager and select Application Loader... The make sure BB Messenger is selected (checkbox) and load it up...

Does it prompt you for the CD when you select Messenger in the Application Loader?
What versions are the OS etc. for the 8830? Does it come with Desktop Manager on the CD?

You'll need to have the OS for the 8830 installed on the PC before Desktop Manager will recognize it. If they haven't released the OS then you may be out of luck. The BBMessenger version is included with the OS package, not Desktop Manager.

So just install the latest Desktop Manager from either VZW or RIM?
I still have the Desktop Manager installed from when I had my 8703e last month...will that work?
I saved my contacts list from my 8703e to both an (ipd) file as well as a text file (in case I need to manually enter contacts)...
Just import the contacts list (ipd) file into my new 8830 via desktop Manager I guess?

There are two (2) Software bundles you need. First you need Desktop Manager. Make sure it is the latest version 4.2 SP1. Open DM and click Help >About. It should say 4.2.1.8.

THEN, you'll need the Operating System Software package from Verizon's website. I just looked at Verizon's OS download site and I don't see the software available. I think you are out of luck until Verizon releases the OS for download.

This is the link that is listed for Verizon in Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ

BlackBerry™ 4.x Software Download

The 8830 is not yet listed. I would try calling Verizon and remind them of who told you to delete the app. Maybe than can direct you to another place to download the OS.

It did come with a CD with Desktop manager. They told me to contact blackberry direct but bb will only talk if you give them you credit card number. I can't get messenger to download on to my desktop, when i go to BB website it says to connect device right on their site. I can't get it to download so that I can use the app loader with it. If someone has the program downloaded maybe that would work. Thanks for the help... i'll keep trying. Cust. service keeps telling me that the device is to new. One girl i talked to hadn't even been to an training on the device yet and she was in the blackberry tier 2 level. She said all of her classes are in the next two weeks.

The only problem I am having know is that it will only let me add a contact by form of email. Even if I have A PIN in the persons name it will not let me use that. Any thought?

Question 05-25-2007, 01:41 PM

Ok, I'm a little confused. I downloaded some software that emulated the 8830 before I got it to see what it was like. I can use that software to edit info on the BB itself? Or am I just an idiot? Any help would be appreciated.

The OS for the simulator doesn't always work on the BB. Why bother with that when Verizon has released the OS on their website as linked above?
