Default 8830 Alert on Select Emails - 05-24-2007, 04:55 AM

I use the Phone only profile on the 8830. Is there any way to set specific emails to vibe and ring as well?

I am on a BES. I looked around and tried to add exceptions, but that looks like for calls only, not emails.

any ideas?

thanks

You can setup a profile (go down to Advanced and then Menu --> Edit on the profile you want) to have a vibrate/tone on Level 1 messages. Then using your Desktop Manager (or you can do it on the phone I just find it easier via DM) you can setup Filters that will forward the messages as priority/level 1. I use that today to differentiate between regular messages and the handful of From addresses I need to see ASAP. -Pk

I love learning something new!

This is quite easy with BIS, but it took a bit of digging to find out if and how to do it with BES.

The KB article is here:
How to set up Level 1 Notifications

Basically you want to set up a filter that will set specific emails to Level 1, and then set up your Level 1 notification under Profiles.

You can do this on your BlackBerry. Go to Messages, Click the wheel/menu button and select Options, then select Email Filters. Enter the info there, and make sure it's set to forward to your device, and will set the message as a Level 1 message.

Two notes.

The domain trick noted in the KB article (to use simply @domain.com) for the filter didn't seem to work.

However, you can enter multiple email addresses (don't know what the limit is) separated by a semicolon (;).

You can do the same with BIS filters, but you can use just the email's domain, and even partial email names there.

I use domains ~without~ the @ successfully, just some.domain.com, ..

Just for management I don't put more than eight or ten specific email addresses in each filter but I've got a good number of groups and haven't hit a problem yet.
