Default Convenience key does two operations? - 05-25-2007, 07:15 AM

I am still new to my BB, so maybe this is a dumb question. I have my convince key set to lock my phone, and this morning I held the convince key down and it pulled up my call log. Is there a way to set what the convince key does when it is held down?

Sounds like a defect to me. The 8800 has only one convenience key and only 1 function can be assigned. I would do a battery pull and see if it ever happens again..

Your phone does not do anything if you hold down the convenience key for say, 2-3 seconds?

I did a battery pull, and my phone still will pull up my call log if i hold the convenience key down???

I was starting to think mine was the only one that did this... It would be neat if there was a way to set the secondary option to something else...

Default Happens on 8800 not on 8830 - 05-25-2007, 10:43 AM

Interesting, on my Cingular 8800 I have my convenience key set to open Messages. If I hold down the convenience key it does open the call log. (v4.2.172)

On my VZW 8830 holding down the convenience key for 2-3 sec or longer does nothing. (v4.2.2.66)

Call log only comes up if you press the con. key for more than 2-3 seconds. If you just tap the key, it perform what ever task you had intructed it to do.

It is'nt a flaw.

Yes, if you lightly push my 8800 convenience key, the phone locks itself. If you push it down harder, the call log comes up. It became annoying, so now I just hold down the mute key and put it in standby mode instead.

Pushing the MUTE key down puts the phone into "hibernation" the screen goes black and all the keys are locked. You still get email notification and phone calls.

Push mute again, and everything powers up at once.

I like it.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 7250: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Wow. What a great thread. Perfect timing too. I'm on my 2nd 8800 and I didn't notice this "feature" on my first one or even when I first got my replacement unit. Recently mine began doing this and I was contemplating getting a third unit. Although I don't this "feature" being very useful as the convience key and dial key are adjacent to one another and a simple press of the dial key performs the same function...oh well still a great device. I'm willing to live with it.
