Question major bind.... 8830 or 8703???? - 06-01-2007, 07:28 AM

ok i need some help from yall big times. im gonna have to pay full retail for a phone and im gonna be getting one today but i dont know which one.

i like the 8703 because the feel in hands is way better and i like to think i can just chunk on the counter coming from work.

but the thing with the 8830 is because of course trackball and new software.

basically i need some of yall to just jump in and tell me what to get... im one of those types of people that just jump into it if enough people tell me which one.

sooooo 8830 or 8703

I'd say 8830. I have never owned an 8703, but obviously it comes down to what you want to use the phone for..

Seriously... what do you expect people to tell you here?
We don't even know your needs/wants or anything about your usage requirements or budget.
For someone to just say 8703 or 8830 to you with the information you've given us to go on ... well, that would be irresponsible.

I upgraded from the 8703e to the 8830 and while I am glad I did, the 8830 doesn't offer that much additional functionality. It's "updated" which is kind of what did it for me, since I was getting tired of my 8703e.

My 8800 on Cingular has GPS which I used while travelling in Alaska. It works with BB Maps for no extra charge. It doesn't replace a GPS guidance system but at least it gives you some idea of where you are.

My vote is the 8800 but be aware that the build quality of the rails has been much discussed. In a nutshell the rails come loose and squeak about two weeks after you start using it.

Well then that is a NO-BRAINER. Get the BB with the most stuff, which would be the 8830. Media Card, updated software, extra features, etc.

Why even question it?

I flipped a coin over here, and it came up tails, which I assigned to 8703e.
Get the 8703e.

The 8830 has the trackball, GSM 900/1800 for international travel, and Bluetooth DUN.

If you don't need or want any of those, then the 8703e is a fine choice.

I was a long time WM2003SE and WM5 user (samsung i730 most recently, which I really enjoyed). Changed jobs and my new company only supports BBs. Bought an 8703e three weeks ago. Loved it immediately. Loved it for all of the reasons that WM->BB converts love it.

I had convinced myself that the 8830 wasn't for me. I didn't think I would like the form factor nor the case. I didn't need the multimedia. But after a week with the 8830, I would never go back. I love the form factor. Love the leather case (and also have a seidio). Love the trackball. Use the multimedia more than I thought I would.

If you get the 8830, I think you will be very happy. If you get the 8703e, I think you will also be very happy, but you will likely always wonder if you should have gone with the 8830. Save the stress. Buy the 8830.

This is also a good thread for more 8830 specifics:

I think you missed the part (a few posts up) where he said he already got the 8830 and didn't quite like it...
