Question Correct Verizon 8830 OS Version? - 06-12-2007, 08:11 AM

What is the correct Verizon 8830 OS version? I downloaded an update and everything worked great. I started to get email and all other issues were resolved. I synced with my BB Desktop software and now nothing works again. Did the old OS somehow end up back on my 8830?

Current OS on 8830: 4.2.2.66

There is currently only 1 version of the 8830 handheld software available.
It's 4.2.2.66

Latest: Blackberry 8830 / Pkg:4.2.2.148, App:4.2.2.66, Plt: 3.0.0.45 (Verizon)

So you have it.

When you say "now nothing works again" what do you mean. You can't even turn the BB on?

When you synced with DM, did you open Application Loader, or notice that it updated any of the OS on the handheld?

Let me clarify. When I refer to "nothing works" I am speaking to the fact that the email function has never properly worked on my unit. In the 10 days I have had it, I have spent countless hours on the phone with tech support and have replaced the phone once already. Email works great for about 1/2 a day and then it gets slower and slower to the point that it will not push anything to my BB.

Tif, that is odd. Not knowing your setup, however, (BIS or BES), etc., details, does hinder anyone of properly assisting you. Saying "nothing" works, tells us "nothing works", and my only guess was that you couldn't even turn it on.

Very likely, there is some simple issue, because the likelihood of having the exact same issue on two different units makes me think it is related the email setup, rather than the device itself.

Help us understand what your issue is.

I am using BIS in conjunction with Yahoo premium mail service. As per Verizon, all my settings on the phone and BIS are correct. Once we hard reset, the email function works great. As time goes on, email reliability becomes less and duration between email push becomes greater to the point that I don't receive any email even if I "reconcile now".

I have not seen any other reports on here of slow yahoo mail delivery or any BIS outages today (there was a few days ago).

I even sent an email to my Blackberry address and nothing...

The tech wants me to replace the phone (again). There is nothing worse than having something that you love so much, but does not function the way you need it to!

True. I don't think it is the device itself.

Can you check a few things? (which you probably already have, but humor me if you have time.)

Look at Options > Advanced > Service Books. Do you see listed there your email address(es) with the @ symbol? Including your blackberry address?

Have you, in all this process, ever gone back and actually fully deleted your BIS setup on the accounts, and then set them up again? I have read of other's doing that and things working. Just a suggestion.

Yep. It's interesting because if I delete the service books off the device and then reload them, everything works for a while, but then bogs down again.

In all honesty, that is a Verizon problem, I am almost 99% certain.

I think I have resolved the issue!!! I am the admin for our email system, but use an alias for my direct email. I registered under my alias with BIS, and it pulls it the first time, but not the second. I re-registered on BIS with the admin account and it is now working much more reliably. More testing to come.

So you are getting there, good. Keep us posted.

Deleting the BIS setup and resetting it? At least led to your discovery of the solution?

Check the posting: "Yahoo Small Business Mail – Correct BIS Registration" for a more in depth description of the resolution.

I'm sure glad it's NOT Verizon's fault, since mine works fine.

Not verizon. It was an error/mistake in setting up the BIS with a wrong account name, basically, if you read the other thread.

Oh I fully understood that. It was just a comment to redact your faulting Verizon.
