Default 8830 Browser - 06-17-2007, 08:28 PM

I just bought an 8830. The browser seems not so good. For example, it sometimes displays website buttons with html such as "but_this button". I'd like a browser that handles java script well and can allow you to have more than one window open at a time. I heard that some people are using Opera-mini with their Blackberries. Does anyone on this forum have experience with this setup, and if so what do you think of it? Also, does anyone have any other suggestions for a better browser for the 8830? Thanks.

Hi...
Have you tried changing emulation? Goto you Browser Options and change your emulation to IE. Also, under options, check your options for java...

Good luck...

Good suggestion. Thanks for your reply. I was in netscape mode, I tried IE mode and it wasn't much different. Pocket IE was worse. I've tried mobile and desktop view. I will keep playing with the various options but I think there may be an inherent limitation to displaying full sized web pages on a cell phone. What I'm trying to do is get real time stock quotes on my online brokerage account and unfortunately that involves having one window running java script open in the background with other windows open at the same time. It looks to me that this is beyond the 8830 browser's capabilility, but I could be wrong. Thanks again for your help. I'll post back if I find a solution.

Opera works on verizon??? Operamini.com states it isn't available for VZW customers.

Please tell us more. I would LOVE a new browser!

I just installed Opera Mini on my 8830 and it seems to be working great. I selected the 8800 model.

What do you consider better about opera? I had it on my BB for a day and didn't really see much of a difference.

Check your emulation...
I had to tweek the emulation for the 8800 to geto HTTPS sites. Once that was done, I am able to goto Fidelity or my bank site. The 8800/8830 browser by default is setup with nothing checked within the browser options and is setup to Blackberry Browser by default.

How do you do that? Are you talking the browser push? Sorry I am new to this. I looked in there and everything is checked.
