Can someone please tell me whether the 8830 Blackberry will be able to send/receive email and phone calls in the Caribbean? My CDMA doesn't work there now but standard North American GSM phones and Blackberrys do work there.

Yes, the 8830 will work on GSM networks in the Caribbean.
You need to make sure that your 8830 has a Verizon SIM card in it, and the Global service is enabled and properly provisioned on your account.

This needs to be qualified somewhat. Your 8830 will work on some GSM networks in the Caribbean--specifically, those networks that run on European frequencies (900 and 1800). If you're going someplace where they run on the North American frequences (850 and 1900), I'm afraid you're SOL.

Check GSM World - the website of the GSM Association for your country, or check the link that is offered from the homepage on the 8830's browser.

BTW, I've only gone as far as San Juan with my 8830, and it took a huge steaming dump when I got there. Voice only; if I activated data, I got a looping device reset.

Bummer, I was hoping to be able to use my 8830 while on carribean cruises.
