Default Mp3 Playback on the 8830 - 07-26-2007, 08:02 PM

I have a BlackBerry 8830 (Verizon) and I have noticed a slight issue with its playback of Mp3s. It seems like during playback I get very slight hiccups in the sound occassionally - almost like a buffering issue. It is very mild - but a little annoying. I have a bunch of music on my 2 GB micro SD card (SanDisk) and I sync using Missing Sync (I'm on a Mac). Anyone else noticed this issue? Any suggestion? I even wondered if it was the access speed of the Micro SD - but flash should be plenty fast enough....

I have noticed the exact same thing, in addition to the sharp crackle in between songs. I live with it and hope for a fix. Honestly I find it much more annoying when my Bluetooth spontaneously disconnects (happens all the time, and it's not the headset!).

I've used the media player on the 8830 for at least 2 hours every day for the last 2 months and I've never had the issue that you are describing. What bit rate are you using? I'm using 192K. Are you using MP3 or AAC? Are you running any other apps that are actually doing anything? Have you tried a battery pull?

I've had other "issues" with the media player, but never had it stutter like you are describing.

Edit: Ah, yes the crackle is there for me too, but no stutter...

I am playing MP3s at VBR around 175-190kbps. The glitch is subtle. Do you listen over decent quality headphones? If not, or if you use the phone speaker, you might miss it. I've done multiple battery pulls in between these incidents. I would say I get it on average once every 30-45 minutes of playback, seemingly at random times.

I am using 192k bitrate and mp3 format - I agree with mzman that it is very subtle, nonetheless once you realize it is happening it can make you crazy... I would say that it seems a little more common for me occurring every few minutes. I don't seem to have many other apps running when it occurs, but would think there should be enough memory to handle it.

Happening here quite often too. Much worse when using stereo BT headphones
instead of the good Sony MDR-EX71SL wired ones.

Are you stating that you have your Bluetooth headset working with the Media application? I have been searching on how to enable this if it is possible.
