Default Media card & media file type questions for 8830 (basic help needed) - 07-27-2007, 03:34 PM

Please feel free to move this thread to the media forum if that is where is belongs...I will try and keep this as short and direct as possible as I know these are basic and boring questions to anyone who knows anything about transfering media to a BB. Thanks for any input...

1) Approximately how many songs/videos can a 2GB SDHC and 4GB SDHC each hold, respectively (all my my music is in iTunes, so I would probably convert all files to mp3, but more on this in my second question)? I've never owned a BB or used a media card before, so I don't want to go over kill with a 4gb if I only need a 2 for my purposes.

2) All of my music is in iTunes. Is it right that for those songs that I did not purchase from iTunes, but instead loaded onto my computer from a CD, I can just drag and drop those files on to media card (with mass storage device enabled), but for those songs which were bought from iTunes (but not from the drm iTunes plus section) I will have to burn the songs onto a cd first, and then reload them onto my computer? If that is the case, do I burn the songs as data or mp3 files on to the cd? After I burn them onto a cd and put that cd back into my computer, what do I do with those files that are on the cd?

Thanks for any help, and feel free to add any other usefule tips I may like to know during this process.

supported media type=>supported video and audio types

adding files => Adding files to Media card

how to encode video=> How to encode video for device

Number of media that will fit your card depends on the files bit rate

hope this helps
good luck

I appreciate your reponse (and a quick one at that). I actually found those links on my own previous to my posting. While they are really helpful they don't seem to answer my question about transfering drm coded iTunes songs, so any more help on that (perhaps there is just nothing special about drm iTunes songs then)?

Also, that makes sense that the storgae capacitydepends on the bit rate. For a bit rate if 192 (which I think is what you mean), about how many songs is that?

To strip DRM from songs you purchased from iTunes, burn them to an audio CD (the type that will be recognized by a standard CD player, i.e. NOT a data CD). You can then re-import as mp3 or AAC files.

So, I will only be able to fit about 18-22 songs per cd I burn for the purposes of removing the DRM code? This could take a while and a few cds to get a significant amount of music on to my bb

And when you say re-import them, you mean back into iTunes, replace the verison I already have in iTunes with what I'm re-importing back in?

Sorry for all the follow up questions. I do appreciate the help.
