Default Does Verizon 8830 have gps? - 07-28-2007, 08:36 AM

I have AT&T 8800, and I like it so much my brother is thinking of getting the Verizon 8830.

1) Does it have GPS
2) Can you get telenav
3) Is it low-speed bradband just like AT&T, and if so does Verizon offer a blackerberry on their nhigh-speed data network.

Thanks all

Verizon's 8830's GPS is currently disabled (other than e-911 services) in the BlackBerry. They are going to be enabling it shortly in order to use with their VZNavigator. You can get Telenav, but you would need to get an external bluetooth GPS puck for it to work. The BlackBerry will work with their high-speed network.

Verizon pretty much cripples their phones. As Jeremy said, Verizon's 8830 does not have the GPS capability. Also, if your brother does get the Verizon 8830, make sure he updates the O/S to the new Sprint one. It will enable a the Sterero Bluetooth headsets and fix some bugs. Also, both Verizon and Sprint utilize the faster 3G network, but in my opinion, you really can't see the speed difference that much. If anything, it's like 2 to 3 seconds faster, but the Blackberry isn't really a dedicated web browsing handheld.

Another good option would be the Sprint 8830 (not crippled and has GPS), if you don't mind their horrific customer service and inferior network when compared to Verizon and AT&T. I hope this information helps.
