Smile Can I get BB MAPs on ATT phone if it has been unlocked? - 07-29-2007, 10:30 AM

New to the BB and this forum, look froward to gettting answers I am looking for from actual users. My first of many questions to come I am sure. I just recently purchased an 8800 from ATT. I noticed that when I researched the BB Maps I saw messages that the 8800 does not support maps on ATT? Is there a way to get around this? I was able to get the unlock code from ATT for my phone, I was hoping that was the only road block but I have a feeling that there may be more things to do. Can I get BB MAPs or is it impossible on ATT BB8800. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

BBmaps works fine on ATT, just download it and give it a try.

they say they dont support it but its a simple program no support needed and it works fine. I did find that using the ATT theme it goes into the applications folder.

Do I need the SD Chip in order to load the BB MAPs? or any other Applications as far as that goes?

No you don't. Applications actually can't be installed on the microSD card, it is only for storing media.

You'll need to unlock BBMaps on AT&T devices. AT&T programatically hides the icon for BBMaps. It can be unhidden with a little bit of computer work. To do it you need to install Desktop Manager to your computer and then install the OS package to your computer as well. Then you have to modify the LBS.alx file on the computer and then plug the BB in and run Desktop Manager and Application Loader. A modified LBS.alx can be found in the thread below:

There are some other threads about how to get BBMaps back. A search for LBS.alx will yield lots of results.

The only thing that the subsidy unlock code does is make it possible for you to use another carrier's SIM card. At&t has blocked the loading of BB Maps via the LBS.alx file.
