Well I talked with a verizon representative by calling 18009220204. He advised me that third party applications for GPS should be working. The application is requesting access but I am going outside to verify this now. I will post in a little while. In the meantime, other blackberry users should attempt to verify this information.

Unfortunately, my guess is this is the furthest you'll get.

Google Maps and the VZW 8830 will talk to each other, but the 8830 will not pass along any location data to Google Maps. It will say "Updating Location..." in the upper right hand corner, and after maybe 5 minutes or so it will say that 'your location cannot be determined.'

Frustrating, I know...since it all apparently works very well until you try and get a fix.

Yeah this is very frustrating. I got back on the phone with a different verizon rep and he advised me to "give it up". He said that the "8830 does not have the functionality built into it to allow you to have GPS. I'm sorry for this situation and is there anything else that I can help you with today?" I guess I have to accept that I am getting pimped by verizon.
