Default Cingular 8800 Updates...? - 07-29-2007, 04:48 PM

I may be picking up another used Cingular-branded 8800 as a backup device to my Curve soon. How can I update it so that it displays the AT&T logo on start-up instead of the Cingular one?

Also...for you 8800 veterans, is there a better-than-stock OS version out there that I should update to, in your opinion? And...what are the differences that make it better?

Thanks all!!

You cannot remove the branding from a device. As for the OS the newest one from vodafone seems to work the best at least for me.

Correct. The startup splash screen can't be changed. Look in the 8800 forum stickies for the latest OS for the 8800

I'm using a Cingular branded 8800, and running the Vodaphone version OS (4.2.1.101).

What is the advantage and disadvantage to using Vodafones version next to AT&T?

Before I go to the trouble of downloading the Vodafone OS...I would like to know the answer to this question also.

I did not notice any big difference with the Vodafone update. However, I always upgrade to the latest OS because it is so easy. Sometimes there are background changes you don't really notice.

I haven't noticed much difference among the OS versions that I've tried for the 8800. I'm using Voda's 4.2.1.101. Not sure what the previous one was but I can acutally use Verizon's Zen theme with 4.2.1.101...
