Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Ihave my own domain and two email addresses; one for junk mail and one for real mail.

I set up my 8830 for realmail@mydomain.com, but Iam also getting junkmail@mydomain.com.

My ISP is Times-Warner Roadrunner.

In the email setup I listed the email server as mydomain.com; should I have listed Roadrunner in there someplace?

I am not sure if my email is mydomain.com or Roadrunner.com or username@vzw.blackberry,net

Thanks,
Jan

you can configure a filter on the BIS site to not forward messages coming to [email address]

I thought the filter was related to the mail address. Since the only email address I have setup is [email address], I didn't think about filtering it for junkmail.. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Thanks,
jan

Jan, I held off responding when I first saw your post because I don't understand your explaination of your issue. I was waiting to see what others would say.

The blackberry.net address is the one provided to you by your carrier. The internet email (or what is being referred to as BIS email) is what you setup for your other IMAP or POP3 email accounts you have (your ISP, or Yahoo or Google email, etc.). When you setup your internet email, you use enter your email address in the setup exactly as someone would use it to send you mail.

The filters in BIS are based on criteria you setup. There isn't a junkmail filter you turn on or off. For example, you could set up a filter to act on any email from yahoo.com.

Hope that helps.

Ira,

It is hard for me to explain, too, but let me try again.

I give out one email to my friends (jan@mydomain.com) and I use another email for internet requests for my email (janjunkmail@mydomain.com).

I set up BIS with the email I give to my friends. I don't want BIS to get the email from the [email address] because, well, it's mostly junk mail.

However, it seems to be picking that email address up.

When I check my email settings, only one email address shows: [email address]

So... that made me wonder if I was supposed to use the email address that I give my friends, or the email address of my provider (www.roadrunner.com) or the email address that Blackberry provided (myname@vzw.blackberry.net).

You answered my question that I should use the address that I give my friends, and now I have to figure out why my host seems to be pushing both email addresses to the blackberry.

I am not getting all my email either. I can see some that arrived this morning at my host's server, but it still hasn't been pushed to me, although later messages have been pushed... Either my host is creating a problem, or I have some setting wrong somewhere...

I follow you now, but don't know the answer. Perhaps your junkmail address is not really a totally different account but an alias derived from your email account? Could that be it and the answer has something do with it. It's over my head, but this response will at least bump the thread.

Ira, I bet that is it! Thank-you for the hint. I think I remember that my personal and junkmail addresses are not set up as a separate account, but as an alias or something similar. And I might have a filter on Thunderbird that makes me think they are separate accounts.

FWIW, the missed message delivery has to be an issue with my host. I've tried sending messages to all my aliases and accounts (I do have another email set up as a separate account) and the other account works fine. Either that or I have a strange virus that is just affecting one account.

Thanks a bunch. I know you have to be right without even checking it first.
