Default Verizon 8830 and Macbook pro modem - 07-29-2007, 10:13 PM

Anyone out there successfully use their blackberry as a modem for a macbook pro? Can you tell me the process in how to make this work?

Does it work with bluetooth or just hard wire?

It works fine with Bluetooth, and there's several threads which provide detailed instructions for setting this up.

The key piece is making sure that you have the $15.00 tethering plan added to your account. It's necessary, and there is no way to workaround it.

Got it... but... a few questions... I don't yet have the plan but I will tomorrow. Currently I tried to pair the phone with my computer and it would not pair. IS that because I do not have the plan?

Is the connection fast?

Would it be faster if I used the cable versus the bluetooth?

Hmmm...I don't see any reason why you need to have the tether plan just to pair since pairing the MacBook Pro can be used for things other than tethering. I think your pairing problem is something else. Mine paired fine, but I had the tethering plan at the time, but again, I don't think that should be the problem.

The connection is not bad. Not as fast as broadband. Noticeably slower, but very usable.

If you haven't already found how to do this, once you figure out your pairing issue, run the Internet Connect Application and setup a Bluetooth connection with the following:

Telephone Number: #777
Account Name: [email address] (where the Xs are your cell #)
Password: vzw (I think if I'm remembering right. Mine's a bunch of dots, so I can't read it)

Good luck
