Angry Sprint 8830...the fatal flaw? - 07-30-2007, 10:34 AM

After being very satisfied with both the 8830 and the Sprint service for several weeks, I am now dealing with the missed call/no voice mail issue. When the unit misses an incoming call, there is no indication...it just goes straight to voice mail. Then, it may take as long as 24 hours for the "voice mail waiting" alert to display...and this is in a non-roaming situation. This does not appear to be a hardware issue. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks.

I personally think that is a Sprint service issue, not necessarily a 8830 issue. I've had that problem w/ multiple Sprint phones in the past, no such problem like that w/ my 8830.

welcome to sprint. I had same issue when i left them in January for Verizon. I switched to sprint from nextel to get away from dropped calls first week was ok then it was right back to where i was before all calls going to voicemail with full signal. CSR was hard to deal with we reset me account several times reloaded software umpteen times. Final straw I was on the phone with my dads heart doctor when the call dropped I immedialy stopped at Verizon and ported my number.

Wow. Thanks for the input. That level of unreliability outweighs the fast internet and aggressive pricing...even though I have had a similar problem with Verizon's phone service in the past. Don't remember having it with T-mobile.

Had that problem with Nextel, but never with Sprint.

I havent had one dropped phone call on verizon since january the 19th 2007 except when going through a cave in tennessee. Service and CSR has been spot on everytime I have had a need.

I had the issue with my 7130e, but not so far with my 8830. Had it a lot with Nextel.

This generally happens to me when I'm in an area with marginal service. It's happened with a number of phones, though, so I don't think it's 8830 specific. I have figured out where this tends to happen, and after I leave a bad area, I'll reset my phone and any voicemails will usually pop right up.

There was a fix for this for the windows mobile phones, it has to do with how often the phone polls the towers for data/calls. The Mogul was set to poll every 4 seconds (I believe), the hack brought it down to 1.5 seconds. I'm willing to bet this is the same issue.

I have been on sprint for years now. This happened to me with my PPC6700. Take the phone intoa full service location and they will help you out, or just call customer service. Sprint is very helpful when you have a problem.

Default I have had that problem too... - 07-31-2007, 02:39 PM

but seven years ago... it never happened in my 1st gen (2003) camera phone that I just replaced for my 8830... no issues with the new phone either. To be honest, though, I think my Sanyo 8100 had better reception than my BB if that makes sense... I had 5 bars all the time while my BB gets 4 most of the time, when I'm home.

This is a CDMA issue. It can affect all CDMA carriers and is related to how and when phones are permitted to contact towers (timing). It can happen in an area with great signal or in a marginal area.

Interesting point...you may be right. I had the same problem with the Moto 815 on Verizon, and they were never able to solve it. Fortunately, it only happens occasionally with the 8830. And, once again, after three weeks, the 8830 and Sprint service continue to be quite good. Can't wait to talk to their CS reps...just to see if they're really worse than the other guys'.

Yeah Anthro is right, I had this problem when i was with Sprint and I complained alot and they told me it had to do with CDMA and timing in contacting the towers. I accepted it and stuck with CDMA for 4 years longer.
