I'm actually working on the download as we speak; though I don't have an 8820, I'm gonna play with the OS a lil' on my end. ^_^

It's pretty fascinating. There are a LOT of initial files on installation; 586 files in the Java folder alone. Still doesn't contain both Vodafone Today themes, but I'm sure that can probably be remedied in the same manner as adding the 8830's Verizon theme to the 8800 or Curve. I'll look into this a bit; AT&T apparently isn't getting the 8820 until the middle of the month. *Sweatdrop*
Overall, this looks like it's just going to be an 8800 with the 4.2.2 OS and WiFi, though I've heard rumors that this thing will be taking high-capacity SD cards, so maybe we're looking at some intense storage action goin' on here.
More on this as warranted by further developments.

MicroSDHC was confirmed in RIM's press release last month... up to 32gb.
Of course 32gb cards are nowhere in sight, yet... but this hungry little geek can't wait to ditch the iPod and carry only the BB. So far 8gb is all that I have seen. (Interesting, 8gb = 5,555,555 floppies)

Okay, so I've gotten this OS info to someone with an 8820 (upper-tier associate here at good ol' AT&T) to test the OS. I'll update as I gather new info.

No, the 8820 actually has Wi-Fi hardware support. The software in this OS just makes it available. BIS/BES emails continue to pass through Wi-Fi as a result of a certificate stored on the handset.

So you've loaded this OS onto a non-WiFi capable 8800 series?

No, no, I meant that's how the 8820 handles email via Wi-Fi.

Hi,
The Wifi works perfectly fine. When I'm on the browser I can specify if I want to use the Edge or the Wifi (which can save some money in the data plan).
I don't know if I can make phone calls thru Wifi. Any ideas ?
I cannot make the GPS working. I can see it in the Application Loader of the Desktop Manager, but it is not visible in the BB Home Page. Any idea ?
When I upload some ne themes, I cannot see them neither in the BB. Any idea ?
Should I flash my BB 8820 and how ?
Thanks in advance

I wanted to do the same thing... Let me know if it works out. I guess I can always wait for it to release in the U.S., which is hopefully in the next 2 weeks.

Does this OS add the spell checker to the 8800 series? How about the other little OS improvements noticed on the newer OS like on the Curve?

From what I've heard, the unofficial word is that it drops with AT&T Mobility on the 27th of this month.

I understand that, but the 8820 is just an 8800 with wifi. I'm wondering if the os would load to an 8800.

I have been hearing that too from AT&T reps at my local stores. They have been saying end of the month and late August. So I guess, I will be patiently waiting until then.

You can load any 8820 OS on any 8820. It doesn't change the keyboard It's hard-coded to the device.
