there is a defect in the assembly of the screen and the keyboard

when you press the trackball in or the escape key it creates a distortion in the bottom right of the screen.

there are other threads on this issue.

Interesting. This is the first I've heard of that and it doesn't happen on mine, but I will keep my eyes peeled.

the easiest place to see it is go into media player and select something. When you get the black screen press the buttons and you should see it. just click back and forth between the trackball and escape.

I went through several units at the store and they were all like that.

This is not on topic of the new OS for the 8830. Please keep the thread on topic.

Ok, I found one thing, it apparently adds a lock icon to the lower right hand corner of the screen when the keyboard is locked. Wow.

Strange...
My Sprint 8830 feels more solid than my old Verizon 8830...
And you can actually see the keyboard characters in the dark.

I feel like the options menu font is bolder, does anyone notice this as well?

Verizon added the bastard application in this release, hid in the menus. To display, open GPS and you can clearly feel the bastard app <--- OK THAT WAS A BAD JOKE BUT HEY WHO CARES!? :D

^^^ Yeah, bad joke.

(Off topic) My VZW 8830 has those same screen issues as the Sprint ones you expressed. Same.

(On topic) They have added TCP back into the software. .66 didn't have this, but the Sprint OS did. Seems that this OS has some of the same feel as Sprint's... it even has the "I don't want to go to the next song" bug in Media Player. Also, .66 didn't have A2DP... this one, like Sprint, does. If you look at the Bluetooth profiles you'll see that the list now matches Sprint's whereas .66 didn't.

if i understand this update correctly:

it updated some Bluetooth support
fixed a glitch in media player
and some technical features (TCP, A2DP)...

has anyone noticed anything else?

considering i don't have any BT devices and I have yet to use this as a MP3 player, it seems like its not really worth the time, right?

4.2.2.271/4.2.2.148 seems a little buggy with Telenav 5.1. When launching the app locks up. Also, scrolling through different apps, eg-Mail, Calendar, Address Book is not as smooth as before, kind of a "jerky/framing" feel to it. I'm wiping and reloading the OS and will also reinstall Telenav to confirm. Otherwise it's back to Sprint/Bell Mobility OS v4.2.2.240/4.2.2.123 for me.

BTW, the ringer/alert volume wasn't fixed for me.

While it's good to see that VZW is claiming that they fixed some problems in this release, I don't see any changes to keyboard backlighting or ringer volume on mine.
