I think the change relates to the holster. Nonetheless, how much lower can it get? (LOL)

Angry Update Troubles - 08-04-2007, 02:41 PM

This crap really steams me. I ran the update utility just as it said, then when I got to the next to the last step - initialization - it just locked up. After about an hour (the progress bar moved across VERY slowly to the end), it just came up and said the communications with the device failed. Then I had to remove the battery and do a reset.

The unit is back to square one now. I'm in the middle of trying to do a restore.

What the ****? Anyone else have this problem? You'd think an update utility from Verizon or RIM would be stable! I can't imagine that they would take the chance of horking up a couple thousand units!

Meantime, can someone give me the list of version numbers from the About screen? I want to make sure everything updated right. Thanks ahead.

I installed this release on my Sprint 8830. I gained about 1 meg of file space. I compared the size of the .cod files between this and the most recent Sprint version. This new release has trimmed some size off of many of the .cod files. I'm up and running with no problems.

I am also getting the "Error reading setup initialization file" messages when trying to run the update file. I have downloaded it four times. Three times on a Vista machine and once on an XP machine.

I have downloaded the file about 15 times on three different computers at different times of the day and get the same problem. Hopefully VZW will replace the file on Monday. It is seems to be corrupt at the source.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Another new function is that I can e-mail, text or PIN any section from my memo pad. In the past, I would have to copy and paste. Good upgrades they are providing.

I get the same error and have not been able to download from the Verizon site. Has anyone gotten the download from the Verizon site to work or have the successes all been from other sites?

I downloaded directly from the verizon site Thurday night and the upgrade went fine for me. Took an hour or so, but no errors.

I didn't mention it but I had no problems with the update. I downloaded the file the first day it was up there and installed. I didn't time it exactly but the upgrade took between 40 minutes and an hour.

So far so good on the update. The part I am happiest with is the CDMA receiver fixes and the improved font on the menus.

what i did was i went to this site Setup Is Unable To Find or Update ISScript.msi and read a similiar post about not being able to install. it said to get the version number off the file you downloaded from the verizon site under properties. then i downloaded issiscript 9 from the site and followed the directions and it worked. i was able to get the update.i don't know if this had anything to do with it working but it did work for me. i also did a go back on my pc about 5days to. the first number of the file off verizon is 9

I too am having problems loading the update. I have tried from two computers and about 6 times. Each time the same thing happens... for the desktop version it stops half way through and for the device version it stops at the very end and just doesn't do anything. I left the desk top one over night at the very tail end of the download when in the setup wizard. I got about 7 hours sleep and come back this morning and it is still in the same place!!!!

I think a trip to a VZW store may be in after I get off work tomorrow?

Do you need to re-setup your BES services with your IT department if you upgrade the firmware?

Not necessarily ... while YMMV, I have used this method (on a Pearl, haven't "yet" tried it on my 8830) and it does work. The OS is upgraded and you stay connected to your BES:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
When you upgrade the handheld the shared key between the handheld and BES are lost. Even if the service books were backed up you would still have to regenerate encryption keys again. If you are not using Desktop Manager the only way to get new keys would be to reactivate.

How would you do this through Desktop Manager? I'm assuming the user would need to have DM 4.2.2 ?

This will work with any version of the DM. When I upgrade mine I usually log on to my company VPN first, then open DM, it asks which Outlook profile to use. Then it shows "connected" (BB is connected) and "online" meaning it's online with my BES email. Then when the upgrade is done I leave it plugged in for a few more minutes and it automatically starts Enterprise Activation. Once it's started you can unplug it and it will finish on it's own. If you need to start an EA many times you can go to Email Settings and in one of the tabs, I forget which one, you can regenerate the encryption keys. That will start EA after an upgrade if for some reason it didn't start.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I tried this, but I still get the "Error Reading Setup Initialization File".

I spoke w/ Verizon Blackberry support and they are aware of the file issue and said they are working w/ Blackberry to correct the problem, but of course did not have a time frame as to when it would be fixed.
