Update:
I called again, got someone different and they called me back with the code. I didn't get to answer the phone so the lady left the number on my voice mail. Now what, does anyone know what I do with these digits? Do I need a card in the unit? Can I borrow a friends ATT card and put it in during the unlock process? Thanks!

Not sure if I just found a bug or not. I noticed that my previously stored voicemail password was not working. There is now a voicemail options tab on the phone, with two separate fields for phone number and password. Unfortunately, any time I enter a password and try to save it, it generates a javascript class cast exception. Anybody else having this problem?

Jeff

Edit: More reports of the same. At least one appears to be prior to the upgrade.

John,
Thanks for the reply but I do not see 8830 listed in those instructions. Many thanks.

Can you help me understand exactly what you have in your Access Number and Password fields? (without giving me your password)

I have tried Access Number of my 10 digit number and *86.

I have tried Password of #nnnn# or nnnn# and it always fails. or ppnnnn#.

I have tried to list the digits with pauses in the password field and paste it into Access Number and it wont take it.

Any thoughts?

I have my phone number in for access number - 10 digits
I have my 4 digit password in, followed by # for password
I press and hold the 1 key (aka the w key) and everything works fine. All that is left to do is press 1 to play the message.

Try this:
Input the above directions.
Go to your speed dial list, to the "w" - delete the field, even if it is blank.
Do a battery pull.
Press and hold 1 key and see if it works.

Did for me, I had to do the above steps after I did the software upgrade.

Thanks for the help from the two of you above. I have tried all those steps and it still doesn't work. One change I have noticed as well post-upgrade is that "Voice Mail xxx-yyy-zzzz" is listed in Speed Dial W now. Before it was just blank if it was the default on W.

I am on hold now with BB support.

Okay, well it is fixed now. They resent the service books and it now works fine. I should have tried that earlier.

Did you pay full retail for your 8830? I was told when I called that I had to pay retail.

I did not. I got a nice support lady who talked to her supervisor and called me back with the code. I think it is hit or miss as to who you get on the phone.

been trying for days and got the error .. thanks for the hosted correct file. Took a bit and bingo, worked perfectly.

Would love it if RIM or VZ would auto push a notice on this stuff, but as has been said before, this is a different world now

Thanks all for the great info

so if I've got a mac, can I just drop this off at a local Verizon and have them do the upgrade? I'm newly-returned to Verizon after a 2 year hiatus... back in the day you could bring your phone to them for an OS upgrade
