Perfect! Thanks for the info. No issues I should be aware of? I am not a BES user so that is not an issue. Any other setups that default or if, for example I have made changes to profiles, added ringtones etc... are they gone or are the settings preserved.

Thanks again

Do a backup prior to the update and you'll be fine. Read all the screens on the update wizard and you'll be fine.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.02; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Thanks for all the info. I think I'll give it a go today. You don't think that has anything to do with the problem you were having with opera mini? I actually use opera and like it. Did you determine what the problem was?

No, my Opera problems were with the Sprint OS. Opera works fine now.

I had a similar thing happen to me, but my calendar patch install crashed, and I had to then do an OS install. Does anyone know away to reclaim the calendar?

Well, assuming that you have been doing routine sync'ing with your PC, have you tried sync'ing them again?
All of your entries should be in Outlook, or whatever mail, calendar, etc manager you use, and desktop manager will prompt you to add the entries to your BB.

I realize you have probably tried this already, or maybe I don't understand the real problem, but sometimes the simple solutions are the ones we overlook.

Well I was using a MAC, and nothing was transfering over from BB to mac, and Tech support told me it would also NOT transfer to a PC due to an OS issue that needed to be patched (phone call was in late may, just found out about patch a week ago) But tech support did say a Backup would save all calendar items. So I can not due a sync to pull things back...
Restore does nothing in regards to calendar

Here is a post about my issue http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...tml#post649141

I see...I'm not really having issues with my calendar yet, so it looks like safest bet it to stick with what I have right now.

THanks =)

I've been watching this thread pretty closely and did a couple of searches and can't seem to see where this is addressed. The question is pretty straight forward:

Can I upgrade to the newer OS without having to manually reload all my third party applications like Idokorro Mobile Citrix Client?

I'd love to try the new bluetooth functionality, but reloading 6 to 8 programs manually is a real pain.

Thanks.

Craig.

Yes. The process will backup and restore your 3rd party apps. However, in some cases, data within those 3rd party apps is lost.

Just in case there is a problem during loading you can backup your 3rd party apps yourself by following this procedure:

Default rim8830c.* file replacement???? - 09-07-2007, 10:05 PM

So if I replace the rim8830c.* file in the verizon directory with the file from the US Cellular or Alltel version then it should work, correct??? In theory???

No, no, no, and no again. I know I said this before. All vendors use the SAME coded firmware file. The checks are written in ALL firmwares from ALL carriers.

No mention of GPS functionality, they must be really milking the GPS configuration

it dont matter whos os you download, they use the same setup basically their is a call in a few files if carrier 105 it disables gps, or better yet it dont map the memory location for it, in english it dont load the gps portion of the phone

this is in a few files, as in net_rim_clds which pulls a call for vendor 105 gps, and in the secure check software for the background of the bb thats running.

best files would be net_rim_api / net_rim_clds and a few secure modules.

When your BB boots up its like a computer more or less, in the bios or cmos it says ok here is everything and its all enabled and then it hits the OS "operating system" U know like winbloze ;)

Anyways that is where Verizon is F--ing its customers and disabling the GPS and all the other wonderful functionality built in to your 8830 and your being over charged for data, and other services and you CANNOT buy the device outright and still be out of contract like I can with AT&T and TMO.

Have a wonderful time with VZW

i doubt it, phone stauts shows gps enabled, so its not bios or branded turned off. its cod controlled, and unlike the emu, the blackberry has a 2nd check for modded files, and loading a non signed file isnt working.
