Default 8830 CDMA (Verizon) 4.2.2.271/4.2.2.148 - 08-02-2007, 07:40 PM

Verizon just posted their new device software for the 8830. It is version 4.2.2.148. I am still loading it, so no report yet. Find it here.

BB 8830 CDMA Devices: Pkg v4.2.2.271/App v4.2.2.148/Plt 3.0.0.67

While this OS fixes the calendar issues, if you're just having calendar sync issues RIM has released a patch for older OS versions to fix the calendar issue: Click Here

To install this update:
1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager
2. Donwload this OS and install it to the PC.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (this step is necessary any time an OS is installed from a different carrier than what is branded on the BB.)
4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

Edited Blackberry.alx and instructions for unlocking vendor themes for this OS can be found Here

(Link to previous OS Click Here)

Damn, this just came out. I checked the site earlier and it wasn't there. Must have just posted it late this afternoon. Getting it now. Who's holding their breath for GPS support?

Is the .148 the apps or the entire package? If package, wouldn't that still make the Sprint/Bell newer?

It's the entire package, not the OS version. The Bell version was .123 last time I looked. The VZW filename is 8830EFS_PBr4.2.2_rel271_PL3.0.0.67_A4.2.2.148.exe.

Edit: Jinx!

Not sure yet, but I doubt it. We don't need to delete that vendor.alx file right? ...since its native VZW OS.

No you don't have to delete the vendor.alx file if it is from your own vendor.

Default Got it installed - 08-02-2007, 08:12 PM

I've got it installed and working fine. The versions are as follows:

v4.2.2.148
Platform 3.0.0.76

So far I find exactly nothing that is different

No GPS, at least not inside my building, and I can't see any difference on the ringtones I use, but they are all the canned ones.

Don't forget to disconnect your BB from he computer while installing or the progress bar will get stuck..I'll run outside once its on the phone and check the GPS but I doubt it will work.

John Clark is wrong on the "edit" he made to the original post on here. (There is no need to delete the vendor file if you're loading this on a VZW handset.) And why even bother with an edited alx file. Just use javaloader.exe to load each cod file of the carrier themes. Way easier...

Hopefully you mean while you are installing the software on your computer, not while you are installing the software on the BB!!!!

I think John means his messages for those that are ANY carrier. Other people might want to try a newer release too.

Rule of thumb would dictate that if "Internal GPS" is not available in BBMaps it probably still doesn't work.

Yeah, I thought of that after I posted, but the other part is still right.
