Default Where is the browser? - 08-17-2007, 09:16 PM

Do you have a blackberry data plan provisioned on your account?

Without a blackberry data plan, you won't get a browser... Or email... Or data features.

Probably the one under connections. Try sending your service books again and make sure you have been registered on the network with your carrier.

I need to ask you again...Do you have a blackberry data plan?
It's something you pay for each month on your wireless bill. Usually around 20-30 dollars in addition to your voice plan.

Does it say 'data connection refused' on your blackberry screen?

Do you see gprs or edge (in lower case letters) on your blackberry screen?

Do you see GPRS or EDGE (upper case letters) on your screen?

Ok, you have an 8830 if you're with sprint.
Do you see 1x, 1xev, 1X, or 1XEV on the screen?

Sometimes it does take several hours for the browser icon to show up.

I do have the Data plan 39.99 unlimited data. I set it up like a hour ago (talked to a sprint rep). There is no GPRS or EDGE on my main display screen. Even when I click on maps is try the gps thing is just sits there saying looking for sattelite....

You won't see GPRS or EDGE on the screen. I posted that before I realized you had an 8830. My mistake.

How about the 1x, 1xev, 1X, or 1XEV ?

1x (lower case x) means you have no data connection yet.

That's why you don't see a browser icon.

Give it a few hours. the 1x will turn to 1X or 1XEV. Then your data will be active and your browser should show up.

Default Same problem ...... - 08-17-2007, 11:01 PM

I migrated from Nextel (7100i) to Sprint so I could get the 8830......I got my phone yesterday, did the activation had the data plan with SPRINT,
no browser no emails no DATA. Called sprint blackberry support was on with them for 3 HOURS!!!!! (No, I don't have alot of spare time on my hands). I am self employed and get my work orders via email. If I don't reply to accept the order one of my competitors gets it and I lose money, so trying to stay calm I did everything they told me for 3 hours. Take the battery out, put it back, provisioning the phone, register the host routing tables everything goes just fine, stil after all that no browser no emails. Well, they tell me ... sorry, we will do a ticket and send it to tier 3 blackberry support. Now comparing the support to Nextel this is NOT good. Nextel bb support puts you right thru to tier 3 techs, if they can't fix your problem. No good. And the icing on the cake is with they ticket they should get in touch with me in 36 hours. I called again today, being a bit uneasy and went through all the same stuff I listed above only to be told he couldn't help me but would do a ticket ... I replied I have a ticket. He looked to see if he could find it ... guess what there was no ticket done they day before. So he did a ticket and I have a ticket number now, but he also informed me that there are tower problems in my area. WELCOME to Sprint. Someone please tell me this is not typical of Sprint. Their customer service compared to Nextel is awful.

Well I called back Sprint and turned out sprint system didnt show me as having the data plan..(I ordered it). This rep tried re-doing it and kept getting errors. Turns out each data plan like this has a sprint email adress. If the adress they have is already in use in blackberry land it causes errors. He changed my sprint email and the data plan stuck. I am still waiting for it to turn on but should soon. Try asking about that. Sprint service has been pretty good for me in general. I hope your issue gets resolved, and hope I don't get the same problem.

Edit.. well the data network hasn't shown up on my phone yet...sigh..

just another reason not to use sprint. Has been this way forever and I dont know why every other carrier the thing is ready to use right away.

well .. it went down like this ... being this my first bb 8830 world edition from sprint i consider myself a newbie !! i had a limited knowledge about bb's up until i found this bb forum ..(which i found very helpdful btw) ... as most of us (recent bb users). i got the new 8830 world edition more or less like a week ago ..signed up for the 2 year agreement and a $39.99 (per month) plan ... + $7 (insurance) and + $15 (sprint vision pack) ... at first i thought with all those things listed above i was ready to go ... but i was wrong ... when i got home .. i wasnt able to surf on the web nor use the GPS locator on my bb ... .. after looking for more info about bb's i found out that there was supposed to be a browser icon on all BB's in order to use the internet ... well mine didnt have one ... in other words it came without one .. dunno why ..but neways ... i tried callin sprint customer service several times ..and no1 seemed to know wat was the problem ... (no internet , no gps , no browser icon) ... they made me wait on the line for long periods of time ... called them up today and my call went right through and didnt have to wai not even a min .. this girl jessica from sprint helped me resolve my problems ... the following info is for sprint users only:

1. In order to be able to get a browser icon on ur bb 8830 from sprint u MUST have a MOBILE BROADBAND PLAN ..srint offers 2 plans:
a) 10MB (additional data usage is $.001 per KB) $39.99/mo or
b) Unlimited Data (includes phone as modem use) $49.99/mo

forget about the Sprint Vision Pack ($15/month) ... wats the point of having it if u aint gonna be able to use GPS and internet ....

3. sprint rep. asked me if i wanted the broadban plan ..and i said yes ... then she told me that first she had to contact a blackberry associate in order to add it on my bb .. she also asked me for a call back number (other than ur cell number) so once she could get ahold of a blackberry representaive she could call me right back ... so she calls me back like in 4 min. and asked me to do the following .....

3. after sprint rep. added a mobile brodband plan on my bb she told to turn my bb off and remove the battery and wait for about 30-40 seconds ... after 40 secs i put it back in and turned my bb back on ... it'll take like 2 min while bb reconfigures all ur info ...

4. unfortunately the browser icon didnt appear right away .... but this girl jessica told me that it'd take a few for it to appear ..

5. after aprox. 10 min .. i receive a text msn telling me that my bb was ready to surf the net ... i went to the main menu and saw the BROWSER ICON ... + 2 new icons that say: "sprint software store" and another1 that says: "E-mail settings" ....

6. on the top right on the screen there's this sign: 1XEV (full wireless coverage) and before i only had this: 1x (lower case "x")

7. now the GPS works like a charm ... internet is extremely fast and gps too ...

8. i told the sprint representative to remove the "sprint vision pack ($15/mo)

9. so all i have on my bill is:

$39.99 (450 anytime minutes + unlimited night and weekend start at 7pm + free calls sprint to sprint , etc)

$39.99 (mobile broadband plan : GPS + internet)

$7 (insurance)

$5 (300 txt msgs)

10. so thats basically everything i had to do to be able to get the browser icon and GPS locator .. i hope this helps to all sprint users ....

ps: thanx jessica

ps: MOBILE BROADBAND PLAN is a MUST if u wanna get the broweser icon + GPS .. have a great day ya'll
