Default Listening to XM Radio on 8830? - 08-18-2007, 08:38 AM

I know I did this on my TREO 700w, is it possible on the BB 8830 to listen to XM on the browser?

Check Aftermarket software, there is a program that a person named dollars promotes. I do not think it plays XM but it was one of the more advanced media players. Check it out.

I'd love to be able to do this as well. I'm pretty sure that I heard about this website a while back that let you stream XM that was mobile device compatible, I just can't remember what is was. Has any one every heard of anything like I'm talking about?

There is a website, Home

but you need to have a device that can stream windows media, so far it doesnt seem the BB can stream much of anything at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I heard that Verizon's "unlimited" data plan isn't truly unlimited - that they do not allow streaming of any kind.

I may have read this in my wireless policy document.

That is correct. But sprint has no policy against streaming media. But you would only get in trouble if you used say slingplayer 24/7 for a month.

Verizon's terms-of-service state that you can use up to 5gb of bandwidth a month without them looking crossways at you. How you use that bandwidth is entirely up to you, and that includes streaming. I used to stream XM radio to my Palm Treo 700p all the time using the Kinoma player, and I loved it mightily. Too bad the 700p is a steaming pile.

If you go over 5gb a month, the Verizon folks retain the right to cut you off, as they assume you're doing something naughty--like serving up torrents or something. I think they have trust issues. Can you blame them?

Meanwhile, I'm anxiously awaiting a streaming audio player for my 8830. If I understand correctly from all the searching I've done in BBF, one does not exist yet.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Streaming would be great ... I used to stream my XM Radio on my Motorola Q ... That is probably the only thing that I miss about my Q ... Everything else about the Blackberry kicks the Q's butt IMHO.
