Default New 8830-transferring SMS, etc. - 08-19-2007, 11:03 AM

I just moved from a Verizon 7250 to the 8830. We use BES and were able to set up our exchange mail, calendar, etc. However, I use another POP3 email and text messages. Is there any way to copy/move those emails and SMS's from the 7250 to the 8830?

not sure, but you may be able to do an 'advanced restore' and just restore the SMS data from a previous backup of the 7250...

Do I do this by using Desktop Manager? IOW, back up the 7250 thru the Manager and then hook up the 8830 and try to restore?

sorry, i dont have desktop manager available to me right now, BUT...
if you do a backup of the 7250, then do an advanced restore of the 8830 and change the restore file to the last 7250 backup, you may be able to restore the sms (or maybe the whole messages database) to the 8830...

Bingo. The only thing I am not sure of is that I think you have to restore the whole file as opposed to only the SMS component.

Ok, here's what I've discovered. The SMS component is segregated from the rest of the messages. So, I backed up the SMS from the old BB and then plugged in the new BB and proceeded to restore (using the Advanced option, not the Auto option). The problem is that the restored data REPLACES the existing data on the new BB. I tried backing up the data on the new BB, but it replaces the backed up data (from the old BB) on the Desktop Manager! I was hoping that the Manager would show 2 sets of data -- and then allow me to select which one to restore. But that's not the case. So, I'm now trying to figure out if I can save the files on my computer hard drive and then retrieve them through the Manager....

good to hear that the data is separate...
what youre actually doing there is overwriting one database file with the other so, yeah, its a total over-write...

good luck!

You're right. It's a total overwrite! I wonder if I had done a backup/restore upon receiving the device, could I have avoided this problem? I would've put the old data on the new device and then began receiving/sending my new messages.

LOL! The texting was minimal. I was more concerned with getting the 4000 emails off my old BB -- some of which are pop3 and others are Exchange.
