Default Opera Mini - 08-21-2007, 08:59 AM

I recently upgraded to the 8800 from the Pearl. I do not have a data plan but had installed Opera Mini on the Pearl and it worked perfectly. I have installed it on the 8800 and it "fails to connect to the internet". Have tried everything and cannot get it to work. Should this work without a data plan as it did on the Pearl? Thanks for any help!!

Have you looked around here to see what users in a similar situation were recommended?
What are the TCP and APN settings? - BlackBerryFAQ

Good luck.

Been looking around for 2 days. Can't get a clear answer as to weather it should work without a data plan but since it worked perfectly on the Pearl, I don't know why I can't get it to work on the 8800. I've seen 3 different APN settings so I don't know which is right or if that is the problem.

So, would you share with us how you have the TCP set so that we can help you?

It's pretty clear on this Forum... OM will work with TCP settings without a BB Data Plan FOR MOST USERS. There are some, for some reason, it just won't connect.

For the most part, you must have a BB Data Plan to get full internet and data use of your BB.

ok, now try [email address] for the username. Save.

Pull the battery and reboot and re-try.

Unfortunately, same results. "Can't connect".

ok, let me tell you what happened about two weeks ago--same model, same carrier ATT, Opera Mini, trying to help a new user get his TCP working. He tried and tried with different settings. Rebooted, etc. Would not work.

He IMed me about a week later, and said out of the blue it started working several days later.

So... that might happen with you, who knows. It is free, so you can't complain, and honestly, you've done what is required so there is nothing left for you to do, unless you are ready to get a BB Data Plan as the BB was intended to have.

Good luck.

JSanders, you have a call from AT&T and they sound a little upset.
